ALEXANDER, ROBERT R.

Robert R. Alexander, son of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Alexander, was born Sept. 27, 1833, in Logan county, Indiana, departing this life at the age of 85 years, 7 months and 7 days, on the 4th day of May, 1919, at his home two miles north of Nortonville, where he had lived the past 55 years, coming to Illinois in the year of 1858.

He was united in marriage to Martha Jane Long in October, 1859, who preceded him in death nearly 36 years ago. They were the parents of 14 children, 7 dying in infancy. The surviving are Pauline Hornback, of Nortonville; Ellen Henry, Utica, Kansas; Benjamin, Jacksonville; Elizabeth Hobbs, White Hall; Robert, Murrayville; Katie McCann, living near Nortonville, and Bert, at home. He is also survived by 34 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. In his early life he united with the Youngblood Baptist church, and his christian life was evidenced by the life he lived. His kind and christian spirit extended to everyone, and endeared him to his family and friends also. The neighbors and friends realize they have lost a good man and kind friend.

Funeral services were conducted form the Youngblood church at Nortonville, Rev. Edward Hudson, pastor of the church, officiating. Music was furnished by the church choir and interment was made in Youngblood cemetery. The pall bearers were Thos. Oxley, Gus Henry, Thos. Mason, Jas. Jefferson, Edward McNeely and Ezra Chaudoin. The funeral offerings were cared for by Misses Ollie McNeely, Gertie Lashmet, Oleta Kelly and Hilda Cox.
