Raymond Hayes, 82, of rural Jacksonville in the Pisgah community died Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 20, 1996, at Modern Care Convalescent Center.
He was born Oct. 1, 1913, in Winchester, the son of Elmer and Nora Northcutt Hayes. He married Helen L. Ausmus May 22, 1933, in Hannibal, Mo. She preceded him in death on Aug. 18, 1996. Mrs. Hayes' obituary ran in Monday's Journal Courier.
He is survived by two sons, Gary, (wife, Louise) Hayes and Steve (wife, Sandy) Hayes, both of Jacksonville; two daughters, Mrs. James (Patricia) Whalen of Waverly and Mrs. Terry (Mary Beth) Airsman of Jacksonville; 11 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, David Whalen; two sisters, Lena Cardali and Bessie Wilks; and two brothers, Everett and Delbert Hayes.
Mr. Hayes was a fireman for 25 years for the City of Jacksonville retiring as Fire Chief in 1964. He was a member of the Harmony Lodge #3 A.F.&A.M.
Joint funeral services for Mr. and Mrs. Hayes will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at the Williamson Funeral Home with burial at Union Baptist Cemetery at Pisgah. Memorials are suggested to Union Baptist Cemetery.
