Charles M. Blankenship, 62, of Palmyra, formerly of Springfield, died at 12:12 a.m. Tuesday, December 12, 1989 at St. John's hospital in Springfield.

He was born Feb. 3, 1927, in Springfield, the son of Luther Monroe and Myrtle Hawkins Blankenship. He married Ruth Mosley in 1958 in Elkhart. He was formerly employed by Friendly Chevrolet and Autobody Damage Appraisers.

Preceding him in death were two brothers, Dean and Jim; and one sister, Hazel Bratton.

Mr. Blankenship was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War.

Surviving are his wife, Ruth A. Mosley; one son, Michael E. of Glenarm, two daughters, Joanna Dodd of Springfield and Mrs. James (Marilyn Jo) Bitter of Stevensville, Md.; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; four brothers, Lester and Lawrence, both of Virden, Cecil of Patterson Bay and William of Kingman, Ariz.; three sisters, Viola Allen and Mrs. Byron (Violet) Jackson, both of Springfield, and Belva Blankenship of Carlinville.

Services were 10 a.m. Friday at Vancil Memorial Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Russell McInnis officiating. Burial was in Union Cemetery in Pisgah.
