Phebe Buckles was born May 27, 1840 in Hardin County, Ky., and departed this life January 15, 1917, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Edward McCready, near Waverly, aged 76 years, 7 months and 19 days. Death was due to a complication of diseases.

She was united in marriage to Robert H. Tabb, March 9, 1876 and he preceded her in death August 7, 1909. To this union were born three children, two daughters and one son; Mrs. Laura McCready of Waverly, Mrs. Emma Allen of Franklin and Elza Tabb, whose whereabouts are unknown.

She, together with her husband came to Illinois in 1905 and resided with her youngest daughter Mrs. Allen two years and the remainder of life with her other daughter, Mrs. McCready.

She was converted at the age of twenty-one years and was one of the first members enrolled in Zion Methodist church where her membership still remained at the time of her death. She was always an earnest and zealous worker both in and outside the church until ill health prevented her doing so, but after she lost her hearing she was robbed of her greatest enjoyment, that of hearing the Gospel preached, and altho she endured much suffering before the end came she always trusted that eternal rest with God and her departed loved ones awaited her on the other shore, and stated before she died, of her willingness to go when the Lord saw fit to call her home.

She leaves to mourn her departure, three children, fourteen grandchildren and one great great grandchild, Burt Martin, little son of Mrs. Phebe Martin, oldest grandchild and namesake of the deceased.

Funeral services were held at the residence, four and one half miles southwest of Waverly, Tuesday afternoon at 2:30, Rev. W. T. Matis, pastor of the Waverly M.E. Church, South, officiating. A chorus composed of Mesdames Elmer Mansfield, and Ollie Cox, Miss Iris Cox, and J. E. Turner, Ollie Cos and H. Dalby sang "How Firm A Foundation", "Nearer My god to Thee", and "Jesus Lover of My Soul". Interment was made in Turner cemetery.
