George A. Coker Dies; Rites Thursday
The death of George A. Coker, a lifetime resident of the Jacksonville community, and a well known farmer, occurred at 1:35 o'clock Tuesday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Charles Caldwell, 1414 South West street. Death followed a brief illness.
Mr. Coker was born east of this city on July 15, 1855, a son of Sylvester and Fidelia Coker. He had always been engaged in farming until failing health caused him to give up active work.
He was united in marriage with Miss Sallie Salyers of east of Jacksonville October 24, 1876. His wife preceded him in death October 27, 1927.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Caldwell, and one son, Amos L. Coker of near the city. There are five grandchildren and one great grandchild and the following brothers and sisters: C. F. Coker, Patterson, E. D. Coker, White Hall, Mrs. Frank Devine, Arnold, L. L. Coker, Miss Maude Coker and Miss Margaret Coker, all of Jacksonville.
Until a short time before the service, the remains will be at the Caldwell home, 1412 South West street.
The funeral will be held at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon at the Arthur G. Cody Funeral Home. Interment will be made in the Scott cemetery east of Jacksonville.
