Richard P. Coker Summoned By Death
Long Time Resident of Morgan County and Veteran of the Civil War Passes Away Tuesday

The death of Richard Preston Coker, long time resident of Morgan county and veteran of the Civil war, took place at his home Tuesday afternoon at 12:20 o'clock, after an extended illiness.

Mr. Coker was born on May 9, 1839, a son of Clabon and Elizabeth Coker, near Pisgah. He was united in marriage with Miss Eva Taylor on May 12, 1879. Mrs. Coker and two step-daughters, Mrs. Malo Gopalies, Springfield and Mrs. Ella Melvin, St. Petersburg, Fla., survive. He also leaves one brother, James Coker, Republic, Mo.

Mr. Coker was a member of Matt Starr post G. A. R., of this city.

Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the residence. Interment will be in Scott cemetery.

Note: Richard's father's name should be corrected to reaad Clabourne. In addition, his mother was the former Elizabeth Hale, daughter of Levi and Catherine Tucker Hale. Richard's first wife was Mary A. Stevens, whom he married January 14, 1869 in Morgan Co., IL. Walter Warren Haley - May 19, 2002.
