Oak Lawn Retreat Cemetery

SE 1/4 NE 1/4, Section 28, Township 15N, Range 10W
Morgan County, Illinois

Death certificates at the Morgan County Court House record the following burials as being made on the grounds of Oak Lawn Retreat. Oak Lawn Retreat, on East Morton Road, Jacksonville, was opened in 1872 as a private mental hospital. In later years it was used as the Morgan County Tuberculosis Sanitarium. After tuberculosis was brought under control by medical science, the building and grounds were sold by county officials. In 1975 the complex was known as Chateau DeFleur, an apartment building. A thorough search of the grounds in 1974 with Steve Coates, an employee of Chauteau DeFleur, failed to disclose any known burial sites. It is possible the burials have been removed to other cemeteries. No mention of the following burials was made in the Jacksonville Journal.
