Claude Murray, 76, died on Thursday

Claude E. Murray, 76 of 854 Case Ave. died Thursday afternoon, Jan. 24, 1991.

He was born June 4, 1914, in Manchester, the son of Thomas Elmer and Mary Mildred Rochester Murray. He married Thelma L. Hagan Kehl on Sept. 22, 1945, and their vows were solemnized in 1983 at the Church of Our Saviour. She died in 1984.

He is survived by one stepdaughter, Mrs. Jess (Donna Kehl) Meado of Jacksonville; four grandchildren, Vicki Vaughn of Ottawa, Terry Shafer of Columbia, Mo., Rick Meado of Jerseyville and Patti Meado of Jacksonville; eight great-grandchildren; four sisters, Josephine Murray, Wilmeth Ritchie, Dorothy Woolridge and Lela Pennell, all of Jacksonville; and one brother, Millard Murray of LaPorte, Ind. He was preceded in death by one sister, Opal Fawley, and one brother, Carl Edward Murray, in infancy.

Mr. Murray, who served in the Army during World War II, was a member of the Church of Our Saviour and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He went to work at the Capps factory at the age of 14 and worked there for several years. He then worked for many years as a carpenter with Carpenters Local 904, from which he was retired.

Funeral Mass will be held at 9:3- a.m. Saturday at the Church of Our Saviour with burial at Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Friday at the Cody and Son Memorial Home with the family to meet friends from 6:30-8 p.m. A prayer service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the Routt Alumni Fund.

Thelma L. Murray, 68, dies Monday

Mrs. Thelma Leona Murray, 68, 854 Case Ave., died at 9:40 a.m. Monday, July 2, at St. John's North Hospice in Springfield.

She was born June 12, 1916, in Murrayville, daughter of John Joseph and Stella Mae Hayes Hagan. She married Claude E. Murray Sept. 22, 1945, and he survives with a daughter, Mrs. Jess (Donna) Meado of Jacksonville.

Also surviving are four grandchildren, Vicki Meado of Ottawa, Terry Meado of Jacksonville, Rick Meado of Riverton and Mrs. Brad (Patti) Hymes of Alexander; two great-grandchildren, Jamie and Ryan Suttles; and two sister, Mrs. Melvin (Irene) Pennell of Jacksonville and Mrs. George (Floreca) Walker of Jackson, Tenn.

Mrs. Murray was a member of the Church of Our Saviour, VFW Auxiliary and for many years was employed at J. Capps and Sons Limited.

Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Church of Our Saviour. Interment will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call after noon Tuesday at the Cody and Son Memorial Home where the family will meet friends from 7:15 to 8:30 p.m. and prayer services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Memorials are suggested to St. John's North Hospice or the American Cancer Society.

Funeral Mass for Thelma L. Murray was held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 4, at the Church of Our Saviour with Monsignor Michael O. Driscoll and Father Joe Cernich officiating. Servers were Tom LaCount, Matt Goldasich and Ron Martin. Organist was Sister Annarose O. P., assisted by Our Saviour girl's choir: Janice Wessel, Michelle Doolin, Mary Lou Bettis, Beth Tobin, Dand Fortado and Dena Fortado. Pallbearers were David Pennell, Greg Pennell, Larry Pennell, Mike Pennell, Steve Pennell, Wayne Pennell and Dale Wooldridge. Burial was in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Cody and Son Memorial Home was in charge of arrangements.
