HAYES, CHARLOTTE BLACKFORD

Charlotte B. Hayes dies here Friday; funeral on Monday

Mrs. Charlotte B. Hayes of Jacksonville died Friday morning at Jacksonville Convalescent Center at the age of 88 years.

Mrs. Hayes was a retired employee of Jacksonville State Hospital.

She was born near Jacksonville Sept. 16, 1890, daughter of James and Sophronia Temple Blackford. These children survive, Charles E. of Jacksonville; Marvin L. of Gurnee; Earl F. of Gales Ferry, Conn. and Mrs. William (Mary) Crosson, Bloomington, Two sons, an infant, Paul, and Kenneth D. preceded in death. There are 19 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Mrs. Hayes was the last of her immediate family, four brothers and two sisters having preceded in death. A half-sister, Marie Haggard of Indiana, survives.

The deceased was a member of Lincoln Ave. Baptist church where services will be at 2 p.m. Monday with Rev. Steve Harvin and Bob Mallicoat officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Lawn cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Cody and Son Memorial Home 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday.

'Bee' Hayes Jr., 65, of Murrayville dies

Elza Cleo "Bee" Hayes Jr., 65, of R. R. 1, Murrayville, died early Sunday morning, June 17, 1990, at his home.

He was born May 22, 1925, in Old Berlin, a son of Elza and Daisy Dishman Hayes of Jacksonville. He married Mildred Crow on Dec. 31, 1931, in Jacksonville.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Mark of Springfield and his wife Carol; two daughters, Mrs. Steve (Vicki) McNeece of Woodson and Mrs. Curtis (Nancy Bee) Mayberry of Jacksonville; four grandchildren, Nicholas and Zachary Mayberry and Clinton and Shawn McNeece; one brother, Harold Russell Hayes of Jacksonville; and one sister, Mrs. Delbert (Eula Belle"Dottie")Stoddart of Toledo, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by five brothers, Roy, Port, Albert, Sterling and Ed; and one sister, Lillie Marie "Sis" Wiggs.

Mr. Hayes received the Bronze Star for saving 52 wounded U. S. Marines in Okinawa during World War II. He was a member of the Laborers Local 253 for 48 years and was a longstanding member of the St. Louis Jazz Club.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Williamson Funeral Home with burial at Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call after 11 a.m. Tuesday and the family will meet with friends 7-9 p.m.
