ELKHORN. Died - On Mondy, Aug. 4, 1879, after a brief illness, Mrs. Eleanor Lewis, wife of the late David Lewis, aged 70 years and 4 months. Mrs. L. was born in Kentucky and emigrated to Illinois when quite young, and was one of the first settlers of Morgan County. She has been a member of the Sandy Creek Church for the last twenty-three years. She was the mother of twelve children, and leaves forty-five grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren, to mourn her departure from this life. The funeral sermon was preached at the family residence on Tuesday afternoon at 4 o'clock, by Rev. Henry Johnson, pastor of the Baptist church, who also administered the ordinance of baptism to Mrs. L. when she became a member of the church. The remains were borne to the Lewis family burying ground. The pall-bearers were John Smith, Samuel S. Thompson, James Smith, Charles Busey, Douglas Lishman, William W. Marshall.
