DORIS DELGADO

Jacksonville - Doris Bacon Delgado, 87, of Jacksonville died Thursday, June 1, 2000 at Skyview Terrace in Jacksonville.

She was born Nov. 14, 1911, in Havana, Cuba, the daughter of Frank and Sarah Booth Bacon. She married Dr. Juan J. Delgado-Mier in 1942 in Havana, Cuba; he preceded her in death in 1985.

Mrs. Delgado graduated from the University of Cuba with a degree in education. She taught at Phillips School in Havana, Cuba before moving her family to the United States in 1961.

She went on to teach at the English Center in Miami, Fla., the junior and senior high schools in Elkins, W. Va., Griffin High School in Springfield, Jacksonville High School, Routt Catholic High School, Turner Junior High School, Triopia Junior and Senior High School and Illinois College.

She was a member of Our Saviour Parish, International Toastmistresses and was a past chairwoman of the Morgan County Republican Women.

Survivors: a son, Alejandro J. "Alex" Delgado-Bacon of Jacksonville; a daughter, Doris P. Delgado-Sorrells of Louisville, Ky., and a granddaughter.

Graveside services: 2 p.m. Monday, Ebenezer Cemetery, north of Jacksonville.

Gillham-Buchanan Funeral Home in Jacksonville is in charge of arrangements.
