RONALD F. BURCHETT

Jacksonville - Ronald F. "Ron" Burchett, 66, of Jacksonville died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001, at Tulane Medical Center in New Orleans.

He was born Oct. 3, 1934, in Jacksonville, the son of Fred Sidney and Florence Louise Johnson Burchett. He married Evelyn "Evie" McMillan in 1959 in Atlanta.

Mr. Burchett was a 1952 graduate of Jacksonville High School and a 1956 graduate of Illinois College. He served with the U.S. Army from 1957-1959, stationed in germany. He was employed for several years as a sales representative for Midstate Photo Lab and later for Production Press, Inc. of Jacksonville, where he served as vice president, sales manager and partner until 1989. He then formed TRE, Ltd. with his wife and served as president of the printing and advertising firm until his death.

He served as scoutmaster and assistant scoutmaster for Scout Troop 107 for 20 years until 1978. He was presented with the Silver Beaver Award in 1979 by the Abraham Lincoln Council and was recognized by Troop 107 in 1980 by renaming the Outstanding Patrol Leader Award in his honor. He had served as class agent since 1966 and on the Illinois College Alumni Board of Directors from 1968-1973 and 1995-1999. He also was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and the Jacksonville Area Chamber of Commerce and volunteered for the CACHE campaign and Salvation Army.

Survivors: wife, Evelyn; three daughters, Sharon L. (husband, Gary E.) Mather and Patty S. (husband, Danny Lee) Hill, both of Jacksonville, and Sandra A. (husband, Eric J.) Slater of Prairieville, La.; seven grandchildren; and a great granddaughter.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, Gillham-Buchanan Funeral Home in Jacksonville. Burial: Ebenezer Cemetery, north of Jacksonville.
