"Louis Christian Hess of 140 Spaulding Place, passed away at 3:10 p.m. Wednesday at Passavant Hospital following a three year illness. Mr. Hess was born in Jacksonville, Morgan County, March 24, 1884, the son of Henry and Mary Bluhm Hess. The family then moved to Beardstown where Mr. Hess received his education. Mr. Hess was united in marriage to Clara Yeck in Beardstown, IL on July 25, 1906 and in 1911 moved to a farm near Concord, IL where he was actively engaged in farming until his retirement in 1952, at which time the family moved into Jacksonville. Mr. Hess was an active member of the Concord Methodist Church and served several years on the Board of Trustees of the Church. He was also a charter member of the Morgan County Farm Bureau. Survivors include his wife, Clara Yeck Hess, four sons, Clifford, Floyd and Howard of Jacksonville, and Paul of Concord, and one daughter, Mrs. Howard (Elizabeth) Myers of Quincy, IL. Thirteen grandchildren also survive and two brothers, Frank Hess of Beardstown and Rudolph Hess of Tarpon Springs, FL, three sisters, Mrs. Walter E. Smith, Wabash, IN, Mrs. A. F. Blank, Beardstown, and Mrs. Herman Wessel of Liberty, IL Remains are at the Gillham Funeral Home and further arrangements will be announced later."

"Mrs. Clara E. Hess, 87, who formerly resided in Jacksonville, died Tuesday afternoon at the Sunset Methodist Home in Quincy. She was born Aug. 17, 1887 at Beardstown, a daughter of John P. and Lizzie Krems Yeck. She was married to Louis C. Hess July 25, 1906. He preceded in death May 10, 1961. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Howard (Elizabeth) Myers of Quincy; four sons, Clifford Hess, Floyd Hess, Howard Hess and Paul Hess, all of Jacksonville; 13 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter. A brother, Artrhur Yeck, of Concord survives. Two sisters preceded in death. She was a member of the Concord United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women's group. Services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Concord United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ronald Eaker officiating. Burial will be in Concord Cemetery. The remains will be taken to the church an hour prior to the services. Friends wishing to do so are asked to consider memorials to the Concord United Methodist Church."
