Fairburn.

John Fairburn was born in Yorkshire, England, April 3, 1849, and departed this life at his home near Scottville, Thursday, May 1, 1924.

He was united in marriage to Miss Elizabeth Gregory in 1875, and to this union were born Mrs. Jennie Foster of Franklin, William E., at home, John Charles, who died in early childhood, Mrs. Clara Belle Turner at Scottville and Mrs. Ada Seymour of Franklin.

In early manhood he became a member of the Methodist church of Yorkshire, England, of which church he remained a member.

Together with his wife and daughter, Jennie, he came to Scottville, Ill., April 13, 1881, where they lived two years. In 1883 he moved to a farm about six miles northeast of Scottville, where he lived the remainder of his life.

He was a devoted husband, a loving father, a good neighbor and friends, living in peace with his fellow men. During his last illness he bore his suffering without complaining, being conscious and knowing the members of his family, all of whom were present at the last.

He is survived by his wife, one son, three daughters, eight grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends to mourn their loss.

Funeral services were held Saturday, at the Hartland Church, at 11 o'clock a.m., Rev. C. W. Andrew, pastor of the Waverly M. E. circuit, officiating. The music was furnished by the choir of Hartland church. He was laid to rest in the cemetery near by.

The bearers were Presley Wood, Charles Bateman, Ben Ellis, Jake Sanson, Arthur Rowden and Albert Gray. The flowers were cared for by two granddaughters, Velma Mae Foster and Oliver Turner.
