WAVERLY-Viola Ruth Denney, 79, of Jacksonville and formerly of Scottville, died Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 17, 1997, at Quincy Veteran's Home in Quincy.
She was born Jan. 23, 1918, in Scottville, the daughter of Joe F. and Lenora Morris Elliott. She married C. Eldred Denny on Feb. 3, 1945, in Murrayville, and he survives.
She is also survived by one daughter, Mrs. Stan (Rebecca Lenora) Gustine of Towanda; one grandson; and one granddaughter. She was preceded in death by three sisters; and five brothers, including Smith Elliott (surviving wife, Ruby) of Palmyra and Lynn Elliott (surviving wife, Mary) of Carlinville.
Mrs. Denney taught for many years in the Macoupin County School System and in the Franklin School System. She was a member of Palmyra Order of the Eastern Star chapter 453 in Palmyra, Scottville-Palmyra Retired Teachers Association, Scottville Christian Church and First Christian Church in Jacksonville.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Scottville Christian Church with burial at Bull Cemetery in rural Franklin. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until service time at the church. Memorials are suggested to the Scottville Christian Church or Bull Cemetery. The Neece Funeral Home in Waverly is in charge of arrangements.
