Nellie Isabelle Austiff, 93, of Jacksonville, died Tuesday afternoon, May 15, 2001, at the Jacksonville Convalescent Center.

She was born June 25, 1907, near Waverly, the daughter of James Solomon and Sarah Matilda Dennis Stillwell. She married Ralph Ily Austiff Sept. 18, 1924, in Jacksonville, and he preceded her in death July 14, 1975.

She is survived by two sons, Norman (wife, Rita) of Springfield and Randy (wife, Kay) of Chatham; one daughter, Dorothy (husband, Harold) Chute of Orange Park, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Velma Ardella in infancy; one son, Harold Rex; one great-granddaughter, six brothers, Joe, Jimmie, John, Lewis, Rex and Ralph Stillwell; and five sisters, Ethel Witherbee, Georgia Austin, Sylvia Stewart, Bessie Wagstaff and Lucy Stillwell.

Mrs. Austiff worked nine years at Nesco and later, for nine years for the Visiting Nurses Association as a home health aide. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Jacksonville. She and her husband set up housekeeping in the Hartland area, south of Franklin. They built their home from trees on the property and lived there until 1975. All of their children were born in that house. Until losing her eyesight, she was an avid reader; after that, she enjoyed audio books very much.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday at the First Christian Church in Jacksonville, with burial at Bull Cemetery near Franklin. The remains will be taken to the church one hour prior to the services. Friends may call after noon today at Cody & Son Memorial Home in Jacksonville, where the family will meet friends from 5-7:30 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Morgan Scott Visiting Nurses Association or to the Bull Cemetery Fund.
