Thomas Andrew Whewell was born on a farm near Winchester in 1859. He was a son of James and Sarah Saluda Whewell and moved with his parents to a farm west of Murrayville where he spent nearly his entire life, until he moved to a larger farm south of Jacksonville. He had been ill but a short time and was taken to the home of his sister, Mrs. J. F. Worrall, who cared for him, until he passed away early Saturday morning, April 11.

He is survived by one brother, Robert Whewell, of West Point, Ill., and two half brothers, John Thompson, of Vancouver, Washington, and P. E. Thompson of Jacksonville and one half sister, Mrs. J. F. Worrall of Murrayville. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Richard Whewell, one half brother, John Whewell and one half sister, Mrs. Laura Lawson.

He was a very industrious farmer and did not care for the luxuries of life, much of his life was spent living alone. He was a good neighbor and had many friends.

Very largely attended funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the J. F. Worrall home, northeast of Murrayville with Rev. E. A. Houldridge of the M.E. church in Murrayville in charge.

Music was furnished by Mrs. Ethel Stringer and Mrs. Mildred Benscoter.

The casket bearers were Walter Lewis, Martin Craddock, Carl Lawless, James Whewell, Frank Worrall and Otis Whewell.

The beautiful floral offerings were cared for by Miss Opal Worrall, Mrs. Bertha Marsh, Mrs. Sadie Nettles and Mrs. Sadie Lawless.

Interment was made in Bethel cemetery.

A large number of relatives and friends were in attendance from Manchester, Roodhouse, Winchester, Jacksonville and the Murrayville community.

Among those from a distance were Robert Whewell and sons, James and Albert of West Point, Ill.
