Kenneth Foster Swain
Kenneth Foster Swain, 83, of Alexander, died Thursday morning, Nov. 20, 1997 at his residence.
He was born Nov. 26, 1913, in the Berea area, the son of John T. and Minnie Foster Swain. He married Irene Barnes on Dec. 12, 1941, in Tulsa, Okla., and she survives.
He is also survived by one son, Donald (Wife, Mary) of South Jacksonville; one daughter, Joyce Gotschall-Swain of Alexander; three grandchildren; one brother, Edgar (wife, Joyce) Robinson Jr. of rural Ashland; and one sister, Emma Grady of Jacksonville. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Clyde Eugene Robinson and John Swain.
Mr. Swain, along with his brother, John, owned and operated Swain Brothers Trucking prior to his entry into the United States Army during World War II. While in the Army, he served in the 97th Infantry Medical Corps in Europe and Asia. After the war, he farmed with his brother, John, in the Alexander and New Canton areas. After his brother's death in 1975, his son Don joined him in the family farming operation. Due to failing health, he was forced into final retirement in the spring of 1997. He was a member of the Ashland American Legion Post, and the Berea Christian Church.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Williamson Funeral Home with burial at Berea Cemetery in rural Ashland. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home where the family will meet friends from 6-8 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Berea Cemetery of the Visiting Nurses Association of Morgan and Scott Counties.
