Bill Surratt Sr., 86, of Chapin dies

William Oliver "Bill" Surratt Sr., 86, of Chapin died Saturday morning, June 29, 1991, at Skyview Nursing Manor. He was born Nov. 17, 1904, in Jacksonville, the son of Crawford and Mary Rosette McDannald Surratt. He married Elizabeth Lavinia Spears Aug. 31, 1927, in Jacksonville. She died May 17, 1988.

He is survived by four sons, Richard Dean Surratt, Herschel Leroy Surratt and Theodore Albert Surratt, all of Chapin, and Sherwood Spears Surratt of Concord; eight grandchildren, Terry Lee Surratt, Atlanta, Janet Surratt Grojean, Omaha, Neb., Bruce Surratt and Kelly Surratt, both of Jacksonville, Brian Surratt, Chapin, Beth Ann Surratt, Glendale Heights, Steven Surratt, Arenzville and Randy Surratt, Gladstone, Mo.; 10 great-grandchildren, Andrea and Ryan Surratt, Atlanta, Benjamin Grojean, Omaha, Neb., Rachel and Blake Surratt, Jacksonville, Korey and Kortney Surratt, Jacksonville, Aaron and David Surratt, Arenzville and Noelle Surratt, Gladstone, Mo.; and one brother, Lawrence Surratt of Jacksonville.

He was preceded in death by one son, William O. Surratt Jr.; one grandson, Timothy Surratt; and several brothers and sisters.

Mr. Surratt was a retired hog buyer for Midwest Order Buyers, and a member of the Chapin Christian Church.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday at the Williamson Funeral Home with burial at Berea Cemetery, east of Jacksonville on Ill. 123 between Ashland and Alexander. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Sunday with the family meeting friends 6-8 p.m. Memorials may be made to St. Luke's Pediatric Department in Beardstown or Chapin Christian Church.
