William Briggs, 61, dies Saturday

William F. Briggs, 61, of 800 Epler St. died Saturday afternoon, Jan. 2, at Passavant Hospital.

He was born March 3, 1926, in Illiopolis, son of Frank and Margery Gimble Briggs. He married Mildred Barfield March 28, 1946, in Jacksonville and she survives.

Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Michael (Renee) Landis of Lakeland, Fla.; a son, Eric of Virginia; a sister, Edie Rhodes of Jacksonville; a brother, Richard Briggs of Jacksonville; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Mitchell.

Mr. Briggs worked in the maintenance deaprtment at Farmers State Bank, was a veteran of World War Ii and a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Williamson Funeral Home with burial at Berea Cemetery. Visitation will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday with the family to meet friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
