Died, at her home near Asbury church, Wednesday, December 19, Mrs. Rachel Flatford. She was a widow and an only daughter survives her. The funeral will take place from the Asbury church at 2 o'clock p.m. Friday.

Mrs. Rachel Flatford died at her home east of Jacksonville, December 19, 1894, and was buried last Friday. She was born in this county May 30, 1834, her maiden name being Shepherd. She was married to Nathaniel Flatford September 22, 1868, but he has been dead a good many years. To this marriage was born one child, Jennie, who has been the constant companion of her mother. Very noticeable was the attachment of each for the other. Her death was so sudden and unexpected that the announcement of it came like a shock to the community. She was sick only a few days of catarrhal pneumonia. But few even knew of her sickness. Those attending and even the physicians did not consider her dangerously ill.

She was a true Christian, noted for her patience, meekness, faithfulness and loyalty. Were any sick she was present to administer to the wants. Were any in trouble or sorrow, she was there to encourage and sympathize. She will be missed in the home where she was the only companion of an only daughter and where she welcomed the Master as did the Shumite woman. She will be missed in the community where she had so many friends who watched and waited for her coming in sickness. She will be missed in the church where she was ready for every good word and work.

The funeral took place at Asbury December 21, conducted by the pastor assisted by Revs. Breckon, Davenport and Holmes. Truly for her "To die was gain." The pall bearers were Austin Crum, Robert and Thomas Hembrough, J. H. Devore, Robt. Smith and Wm. Devore.
