SCHONEWISE, LUCILLE M. AMES

Mrs. Schonewise dead following long illness

Mrs. Lucille M. Schonewise, wife of Horace Schonewise of Sandridge community, died at 9:10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8 at Memorial Hospital, a the age of 43. Death followed an illness of some two years.

Mrs. Schonewise was born January 8, 1921 in Springfield, a daughter of Herbert and pearl VanAtten Ames, now of Greenview. She was married on Dec. 29, 1940 at Palmyra, Mo., to Horace Schonewise and for the past 23 years they have lived on a farm north of Petersburg. She was a member of the Methodist church in Petersburg.

Surviving are her husband, Horace; two daughters, Mrs. James Eddings of Petersburg and Mrs. Robert Wehrheim of Mason City; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Ames; one brother, Herbert Ames Jr. of Springfield; one sister Mrs. Bernice Baumgardner of Mason City; one grandchild; two nieces and one nephew.

The body is at the Hurley Funeral Home, and services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Methodist Church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Robert Pitsch, with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery.


SCHONEWISE, HORACE L.

Horace L. Schonewise, 77, of Petersburg died Friday, March 13 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. He was born May 26, 1920 in Menard County, the son of Fred C. and Nannie Nelson Schonewise. He married Margaret Simmering Horn on August 2, 1965. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, and three brothers.

(EDITORIAL COMMENT: Also preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children - Lucille Ames. NOT INCLUDED IN ORIGINAL OBIT) Mr. Schonewise was a retired farmer and a member of the Petersburg United Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife, Margaret; two daughters, Mrs. Jim (Barb) Eddings of Petersburg and Ms. Brenda Schonewise of Shawneetown; three sons, Roger Horn of Phoenix, Ariz., Norm Horn of Greenview and Dennis Horn of Peoria; 16 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Henry (Sophia) Deverman of Petersburg and Mrs. Don (Elsie) Lockhart of Springfield; two brothers, Fred and Herbert Schonewise, both of Peoria; and several nieces and nephews. Services were held Monday, March 16 at 11:00 a.m. at Hurley Funeral Home in Petersburg with Rev. Daryl Fansler officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Petersburg. Memorials may be made to the Menard County Paramedic Association.


AMES, PEARL VANNATTAN

GREENVIEW -- Mrs. Pearl Ames, 74, died suddenly at her residence Saturday, January 29 at 9:30 a.m. Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 1, at 2 p.m. at the Ennis Funeral Home. Rev. R.E. Florence officiated. Burial was in Elmwood Cemetery.

Mrs. Ames was born in Menard County, August 22, 1897, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James VanNattan. She was a member of the Greenview Christian Church and the American Legion Auxiliary.

She is survived by one son, Herbert of Springfield; one daughter, Mrs. Bernice Bumgardner of Mason City; one sister, Mrs. Iona Forden of Middletown; seven grandchildren and ten great -grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; and one daughter, Mrs. Lucille Schonewise; and one brother.

Herbert F. Ames Sr. dies December 22

Herbert F. Ames, Sr., of Greenview, aged 73, died at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 22 at Memorial Hospital in Springfield. He had suffered a long illness. He is survived by his wife, Pearl, city; one son, Herbert Ames, Jr., of Springfield; one daughter, Mrs. Bernice Baumgardner of Mason City; and five grandchildren. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at Ennis and Son Funeral Home with Rev. Charles E. Johnson of Springfield, officiating. Burial was in Elmwood Cemetery. Music was by Bob Wetter, vocalist, and Mrs. Clarence Miller organist. Pall bearers were John Doyle Jr., Paul Doyle, William Doyle, Dick Doyls, Fred Barnett, and Vernon Wetter.


AMES, HERBERT J.

Herbert J. "Speck" Ames, 77, of Springfield, died Saturday at St. John's Hospice. He was born Dec. 30, 1918, in Petersburg, the son of Herbert and pearl VanNattan Ames. He married Audrey Gaddie and she preceded him in death. Mr. Ames was retired from Barker Lubin Lumber Co. He was a member of South Side Christian Church, and Greenview Lodge 653 A.F. & A.M. for 48 years, and Amvets Post 179. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Blackhawk 86th Division, 343rd Infantry. Survivors: a daughter, Carolyn Rodgers of Springfield; two grandchildren, a sister, Bernice Baumgardner of Mason City; several nieces and a nephew. Remains will be cremated. Graveside services: 1 p.m. Elmwood Cemetery, Greenview the Rev. Ken Gennicks officiating. Bisch and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Death NOTICE: Ames, Herbert J. "Speck" -- of Springfield died at 4:35 a.m. on Saturday, March 23, 1996 at St. Johns Hospice, age 77. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Blackhawk 86th Division, 343rd Infantry.
