 
Annie M. (Johnson) Culver is an older sister of Nels Victor Johnson, my mother's
maternal grandfather. Family stories say that Nels decided to leave Sweden to live in
America. Nels and Annie were very close. She went to see him off and decided that she couldn't
let her little brother go alone. She decided, on the spot, to go with him and proceeded to do so,
bringing only the closes on her back. She worked as a servant to Edward Culver (and I believe his
first wife) before marrying him.
