THOMAS M. REED
On Sunday morning, September 16th, at 6 o'clock, Thomas M. Reed, one of the best known pioneer residents of Logan county, died at his home in Middletown, aged 75 years. For many months the venerable sufferer has been almost beneath the shadow of Death's wing & the end was not unlooked for.
Thomas M. Reed was a native of Sharpsburg, N.Y. where he was born March 23, 1819. Here he lived until 1833, when he came north to Illinois, settling in Menard county. In 1844 he was united in marriage to Miss Susan Patterson. To this union were born several children, of whom the following survive: T.S. Reed, Oakford; Dr. C.C. Reed of this city; A.L.Reed; Mrs.Emma Deaton, Harry Reed & Mrs. Lucy Ramsey, all of Middletown. Forty-one years ago. Mr. Reed came to this county & located in Middletown, where he has carried on a prosperous general merchandise business ever since.
