J. S. GRAHAM, 87, DIED AT ST. JOHN’S HOSPITAL MONDAY
Joseph S. Graham passed away Monday, June 23, 1958, at St. John’s Hospital, after an illness of several weeks. He was 87 years of age at the time of his death. He was the son of Fanny Cantrall and Henry C. Graham, and was born March 26, 1871, on the farm northeast of Athens.
On January 16, 1895, he married Lilly May Primm, who passed away February 1, 1920. To them were born four sons, who survive: Henry P., of Athens; Ronald C. and Wayne E. of Springfield; and C. Maurice of Athens. Also surviving are ten grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Arminta Fulton, of Athens, and Mrs. Carrie Van Meter of Williamsville.
In 1931, he married Cora Van Meter, who with her daughter, Mrs. Ethel Klein, also survives.
Mr. Graham lived his entire life on the farm which was entered from the government by his grandfather, Levi Cantrall, who came to this area in 1819.
He was a leader in community affairs for many years, a member of the Indian Point Presbyterian Church, and for over sixty years a member of the Van Meter Lodge of the Masonic Order of Athens.
Remains were taken to Mott and Son Funeral Home, Athens, where services were held at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 25, with Rev. Floyd Hopper officiating. Burial was made in Indian Point Cemetery.
