CANTRALL, MCDONALD

Illinois State Journal, Springfield, Illinois, 28 March 1937

CANTRALL, McDONALD – Of 416 South College street, died at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, March 27, 1937, at St. John’s hospital, age 40 years. Survived by his wife, Pearl; one daughter, Eleanor; parents, Mr. and Mrs. William H. Crum, city; one brother, Harry, Williamsville; one sister, Mrs. Edna Pereboom, Jerseyville. Remains to Ellinger & Kunz funeral home and will be removed at 2:30 p.m. Sunday to residence of Mr. and Mrs. Crum, 102 South Grand avenue west, where funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday. Burial in Indian Point cemetery, near Athens.


CANTRALL, ARTHUR W. "ARTIE"

CANTRALL, ARTHUR W. (ARTIE) – Of R. R., Athens, died suddenly at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 21, 1955, at residence, age 78. Survived by a nephew, Henry Cantrall, Athens; and four nieces, Mrs. Lois Reinders, Mrs. Hazel Estill, and Mrs. Fay Bray, all of Springfield, and Mrs. Jean Wolfe of California. Remains to Mott & Son funeral home, Athens, where friends may call after 2 p.m. Tuesday, and where services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Rev. J. W. Armstrong officiating. Burial in Indian Point cemetery, near Athens.


CANTRALL, CHARLES H.

Petersburg (Illinois) Observer, 3 January 1908

Charles H. Cantrall died at his home east of Athens Friday morning at 7 o'clock, from Bright's disease, aged 52 years, 10 months, and 13 days.  He was born near Athens Feb. 14, 1855, and has resided here all of his life.  In 1888, he was united in marriage to Miss Florence Council, and to this union were born three children, all of whom survive him.  Besides these children, he leaves a widow and an aged mother.  Funeral services were held from the residence Sunday at 11 o'clock, Rev. Weedon officiating.  Interment was made in Indian Point Cemetery.  The Van Meter Lodge of Masons had charge of the service.

Funerals of Mrs. Cantrall and of Henry Cantrall at Athens

The double funeral of Henry Cantrall and his mother, Mrs. Sarah S. Cantrall, was held from the residence at 10:30 Monday morning.  The funeral was one of the largest ever seen in Menard county. A line of vehicles over a mile in length followed the two hearses to Indian Point cemetery, where the interment was made.  The funeral of Henry Cantrall was under the auspices of the Athens IOOF. Henry Cantrall was the son of Samuel D. and Sarah Cantrall.  He was born February 28 (1849) on the farm where he died.  He was wedded on January 1, 1873 to Miss Emma A. Graham, of Athens, who with four children, Alvin, Arthur, Samuel, and Miss Vernie Cantrall, survive him.

Mrs. Sarah S. Cantrall was a native of Kentucky, and was born November 7, 1820.  She came to Sangamon county with her parents when she was six years of age.  Her maiden name was Alexander.  In March 1837, she was married to Samuel Cantrall, who died in 1884.  She was a member of the Christian church for seventy years.  She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Mary Reesburg, of Washington state, and two daughters, Mrs. Frank Horn, who resides in Nebraska, and Mrs. Isaac Bates, who resides in Oklahoma.


CANTRALL, SAMUEL D.

SAMUEL D. CANTRALL, 68, LONG TIME FARMER, DIES AT MEMORIAL HOSPITAL

Samuel D. Cantrall, who has been ill for sometime, suffering from a heart ailment, passed away at Memorial Hospital, Springfield, Wednesday, June 13, 1950, at 10:15 p.m., at the age of 68 years. He was born on January 1, 1882, a son of Henry and Emma Graham Cantrall. He was reared on the home farm east of Athens, and spent his entire life in this community.

Early in life he became a member of the local Christian Church and has served officially in the various capacities of the church.

On March 17, 1904, he was united in marriage to Florence Grant. To this union three children were born, a son and two daughters. She preceded him in death on February 16, 1928. On January 2, 1934, he was united in marriage to Olive Mott.

Deceased was a member of the Athens Community High School board at the time it was built and served in that capacity for twenty-five years. He was always interested in the activities of the school and displayed good sportsmanship in all the basketball games he attended, and he attended most of them. He enjoyed good clean sports. Mr. Cantrall was a member of Van Meter Lodge, AF&AM No. 762.

He has served as a director of the Athens Lumber and Elevator Company; also as director of the Indian Point Cemetery Association, retiring last year.

Besides his wife Olive, he is survived by one son, Henry, Athens; two daughters, Mrs. Ted Reinders and Mrs. Merle Estill, Springfield; one brother, Arthur Cantrall, Athens; and six grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at he Mott and Son Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 17, Pastor Roland Florence, of the Athens Christian Church, and Rev. J. W. Armstrong, of the Athens Christian Church, officiating. Interment will be made in Indian Point Cemetery.
