James "Jim" T. Bateman, age 75, of White Hall, died early Monday morning, July 12, 2004 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. He was born June 17, 1929 in White Hall, the son of the late Elmer and Maude Ridings Bateman. He married Shelby Lawson Sept. 14, 1957.
He is survived by three daughters, Jean (husband, Guy) Irvin of Warrensburg, Joni (husband, Jeff) Sprouse of Springfield and Julie (husband, Kim) Ruhl of Romeoville; five grandchildren, Jenna and Jessie Grissom, Adam and Austin Sprouse and Sam Ruhl; two brothers, Alfred (wife, Margie) Bateman of McLean and Bill (wife, Louise) Bateman of Mesa, Ariz.; two sisters, Verda Williams of White Hall and Alice Dean Rowan of Austin, Texas; and his two best friends, Austin and Shelby Robards of White Hall.
He worked 30 years for CIPS, first as a lineman, then as a meter reader. He enjoyed riding around in the country and taking vacations. After his retirement he mowed the Walkerville Cemetery and did volunteer mowing in the White Hall Cemetery. He was a member of the Walkerville Baptist Church and was the Sunday School Superintendent. He served in the U.S. Army in Korea during the Korean Conflict. He was a very kind and wonderful person and will be sadly missed by all. The family would like to express their deepest appreciation for the loving care that Dr. Giannone and the staff showed their father during his short stay in the hospital.
Funeral services for James "Jim" Bateman were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 15, at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in White Hall with Rev. David Ford officiating. Organist Jean Coates played "Danny Boy", "In The Garden" "Sweet Bye and Bye" and "When We All Get To Heaven". Pallbearers were Mancil Day, Jake Lawson, Josh Lawson, Kevin Day, Mike Heady and Tim Heady. Honorary pallbearers were Austin Robards, Bob Lawson, Gerald Day and Fred Spencer. Burial was at the White Hall Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the Walkerville Cemetery.

Kay W. Branham, 71, died at 6:15 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 14, 2004, at her residence following a long illness. She was surrounded by her family, with Hospice Home Care.
She was born Aug. 5, 1933, in Paragould, Ark., the daughter of Carl and Lillian (Ayers) Lawson.
She married Richard "Dick" Branham Oct. 11, 1957, in California. He survives.
A member of The True Believers Church in Kampsville, she was a homemaker and avid crafter. She made many wedding albums for family and friends. She was a CNA at the Calhoun Care Center for 11 years. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and friend to many.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Richard "Bud" Branham Jr. of Michael; seven daughters and two spouses, Brenda Adams and Karen Adams, both of Long Beach, Calif., Annie and Marty Powell of Hillview, Carol Seidler of Michael, Mary and Jamie Hickey of Dallas, Lillian Branham of Michael and Billie Branham and friend, Mike Criswell, of White Hall; 16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Gwen Burns of Oregon; and 30 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Lonnie Adams; two daughters, Sharon Presley and Lorrain Branham; two sisters and two brothers.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Hanks-Gubser Funeral Home in Hardin, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Rod Connell will officiate.
Burial will be at White Hall Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the National Lung Association or to a charity of one�s choice.

Ronald L. Castleberry, 53, of Roodhouse died Tuesday morning, Oct. 12, 2004, at Boyd Memorial Hospital in Carrollton.
He was born April 15, 1951, in White Hall, the son of Russell and Virginia (Walkington) Castleberry.
He is survived by his fiancee, Angie Merriman of Roodhouse; a daughter, Misty Castleberry of Jacksonville; two brothers, Donald (wife Kathy) Castleberry of Pittsfield and Billy Castleberry of Roodhouse; three sisters, Kay Brooks of Roodhouse, Janet Meredith of Carrollton, and Debbie (husband J.T.) Williams of White Hall; a half brother, Michael (wife Carrie) Lombard of Michigan; and a half sister, Barbara (husband Vince) Paone of Schenectady, N.Y.
Preceding him in death were two sisters, Patty Goode and Cathy Castleberry.
Mr. Castleberry worked at Triopia High School. Prior to that he worked at Macoupin County Contractors and Finch Farms in Jacksonville. He was past president of Apple Creek Chapter of ABATE of Illinois. He was a member of the New Hartford Christian Church.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, Thursday, at Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in White Hall, where funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday. Burial will be at White Hall Cemetery.

ROODHOUSE Betty A. Crocker, 69, died at 12:35 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 20, 2004, at Jerseyville Nursing and Rehab Center.
Born in White Hall Sept. 13, 1935, she was the daughter of Ireland and Ada Nash Owens.
On Dec. 8, 1951, she married Harold Crocker in Pochahanas, Ark. He survives.
She worked at White Hall Dress Factory, later at Roodhouse Envelope Company, and for 17 years prior to retirement at Anderson/Clayton Foods (A.C. Humko) in Jacksonville. She loved crafts and collected bells, but most of all she loved her family and was very family-oriented. She cherished her grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Rocky Kee of White Hall and Judy and Mike Edwards of Lake of Egypt, Ill.; a son, Jeff Crocker; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister and her husband, Ethel and John Garrison of Roodhouse; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Edna Mae Riddle.
Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the home of her daughter, Linda Kee, at 352 South Main St. in White Hall.
Graveside rites will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the White Hall Cemetery.

Evalyn Gilmore Davis, 90, of White Hall, died Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004 at Provena Covenant Hospital in Urbana.
She was born Jan. 13, 1914, near Roodhouse, the daughter of the late Major Franklin and Mary Brickey Gilmore.
She married Kenneth Strang Davis Aug. 21, 1932 in White Hall. He died June 9, 1989.
Davis was an avid gardener. She especially loved lilies and the Evalyn Davis daylily was named in her honor. In 1988, Evalyn's flower garden was on the St. Louis Garden Tour. She was a member of the Audubon Society.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Carol Ann (Davis) and Robert Hurt and Linda (Davis) and Dick Ballard, all of Urbana; three grandchildren, Davis Hurt of Vienna, Austria, and Kendra Hurt Stewart and Courtney Davis Ballard, both of Champaign; eight great-grandsons, Kenneth Hurt, Joseph Hurt, Robert Hurt, Dennis Hurt, Preston Stewart, Taylor Stewart, Parker Stewart and Connor Stewart; and a niece, Marcia Cox Hollorf.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at White Hall Cemetery. Pallbearers were Robert K. Hurt, Dick Ballard, Davis Hurt, Jon Stewart, Michael Hollorf and Jeffrey Alred.
Following the service, the family hosted a luncheon for friends and relatives in honor of Davis at the Davis Family Farm near White Hall.

Mary Day, 93, of White Hall, died Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2002 at White Hall Multicare Center in White Hall.
She was born March 7, 1909 in Griggsville to Will and Pearl Goldman Bonnett. She married Garvin C. Day on Dec. 9, 1934 in Virginia. He preceded her in death in 1989.
Survivors are a son, Gary C. Day of rural White Hall; daughters, Marilyn (husband Terry) Applegate of Kilgore, Texas and Sharon (husband George) Strecker of St. Charles; two grandchildren, Janice (husband Paul) Newman and Mike (wife Lisa) Applegate; three great-grandchildren, Ben Applegate, Eric Applegate and Elizabeth Newman; one sister, Louise Ballinger of Pittsfield and two brothers Raymond Bonnett of Decatur and Kenneth Bonnett of Pittsfield.
She was preceded in death by one grandson, Stephen Strecker in 1991; two sisters, Elizabeth Martin and Marjorie Bonnett and one brother, Julius Bonnett.
Mrs. Day graduated from Griggsville High School and was a June 1930 graduate of Our Savior's School of Nursing. She was a long-time member of the White Hall First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was a registered nurse and was the director of nurses at the White Hall Hospital for several years.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31 at White Hall City Cemetery. At the request of Mrs. Day, there will be no visitation and she asked that in lieu of flowers, memorials be given to the White Hall First Baptist Church or the National MS Society. Roseland Russell Dossett, 57, of Jerseyville, formerly of White Hall, died Saturday evening May 15, 2004, at Alton Memorial Hospital in Alton.
She was born Nov. 7, 1946, in White Hall, the daughter of Juanita (Carter) Dossett of White Hall, and the late Russell Dossett. She married John Herder, and he preceded her in death. She later married Marlin "Curt" Willis, and he survives.
Surviving in addition to her husband and mother are four sons, John Herder of White Hall, Joe (wife Wilma) Herder of Carrollton, and Jeff (wife Billie) Herder and Kevin (wife Qian) Willis of Hillview; two daughters, Lisa (husband Randy) Giberson and Bambi (husband Robbie) Grummel of Carrollton; 12 grandchildren, Faith, Autumn, Shania, Cheyanne, Brenton, Chelsea, Joseph, Chassaddi, Zacharey, Amber, Jeffery and Elizabeth; a great-grandson, Elyjziah; three sisters, Delila Lawson and Linda Dawdy of White Hall and Sue Riley of Roodhouse; and two brothers, Bill Dossett and Russell Dossett Jr. of White Hall.
Mrs. Dossett and her daughter, Lisa, owned and operated the former Mama Roses Thrift Shop in Carrollton.
Friends called Tuesday at Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in White Hall, where funeral services were at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Burial was at White Hall Cemetery.

Isabel Evans, 89, died Monday, Nov. 29, 2004, at the White Hall Multicare Center.
She was born Oct. 20, 1915, in White Hall to William Ward and Lula (Gullett) Evans.
In the early 1940s, she was employed by the Illinois Department of Registration and Education. In the early 1960s, she transferred to the Greene County Department of Public Aid, where she continued to work until her retirement.
Some 15 to 18 years after they had graduated from White Hall High School, she and Keith Hubbard, who attended Hillview High School, met casually in White Hall. There had been no personal contact between them in the interim from White Hall High School and that time. Each of them had a personal significant characteristic of devotion to the well being of their mother. As the result of that casual meeting, a caring, concerned, independent but very supportive companionship began and so continued for more than 50 years until her death.
She is survived by a sister, Carol Taylor of Albuquerque, N.M.; a nephew, Sean O�Brien of Plano, Texas; four nieces, Patricia Barnd of Alton, Judith Kracht of St. Peters and Anne O�Brien and Ellen O�Brien of Albuquerque, N.M.; a great-niece, Jennifer Jouett; and four great-nephews, Kenneth Barnd, Jeffrey Jouett, Chris Frazier and Wakyn Ferris.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant brother, Richard W. Evans, and four sisters, Katherine Neighbors, Eleanor Evans, Barbara Clemmensen and Maxine Evans.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in White Hall, where the Rev. Alfred Eastin will conduct funeral services at 10:30 a.m. Friday.
Burial will be at White Hall Cemetery.

Maxine Evans, 89, born in White Hall, April 4, 1914, died Jan. 18, 2004. She has joined her beloved parents, Lula G. and W. Ward Evans, her brother Richard, and sisters Eleanor, Katherine, and Barbara.
She is survived by sisters, Carol Evans Taylor of Albuquerque and Isabel Evans of White Hall; brother-in-law, Robert Clemmensen of Albuquerque; and family friend, L. Keith Hubbard of White Hall. Maxine's nieces and nephews include, Patricia and Kenneth Barnd, Kenney and Rebecca Barnd, Christopher Frazier, Jennifer and Jeffrey Jouett, Anne and Ellen O'Brien and Wakyn Ferris and Sean O'Brien.
Special thanks are extended to the staff of Manzano Del Sol nursing facility for making Maxine's final years as comfortable as possible.
She earned a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1938. She served in the U.S. Women's Army Corp from 1942-1946 and was honorably discharged at the rank of corporal. She worked for the American Red Cross from 1946-1948 in Germany. She had a two year tour of duty with the USO before returning to teaching, retiring in 1976 after which she was active in volunteer organizations.
Memorials may be made to your local Alzheimer's Association or the Meals on Wheels program.
She will rest in eternal peace at the White Hall Cemetery in the family plot among her loved ones. Service and interment in White Hall are to be arranged at a future date.

Mrs. Mary Helen Forsting, 75, of Hillview died early Thursday morning, Aug. 19, 2004, at the White Hall Multicare Center.
She was born Dec. 6, 1928, in Carrollton, the daughter of William Thomas and Gracie Lee (Ballard) Baumgartner. She married Kenneth Edwin Forsting June 9, 1956, in Carrollton, and he died Oct. 7, 1999.
She is survived by two sons, John E. (wife Mary) Forsting, Sr. of White Hall and Roger K. Forsting of Hillview; four grandchildren, John E. (wife Mary E.) Forsting, Jr. of Roodhouse, Jeremy L. (fiancee Amanda Buchanan) Forsting and Joshua D. (wife Kelli) Forsting of White Hall, and Jason A. (fiancee Tabitha Winningham) Forsting of Roodhouse; four step-grandchildren, Mike Moffitt Jr., Mark Moffitt and Matthew Moffitt, all of White Hall and Michelle (husband Lyndell) Ford of Hillview; two great-grandchildren; and seven stepgreat-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, William T. Baumgartner.
Mrs. Forsting attended Diamond Country Grade School east of Carrollton and graduated from Carrollton High School. She taught school for a year at the Diamond Country Grade School. She was a dispatcher for King's Trucking in Carrollton, worked at Geer's Appliances in Carrollton and at Carter's Grocery in Carrollton for several years. She and her husband farmed on the family farms at Hillview, Roodhouse and Carrollton. She also helped in her husband's painting business and taking care of their rental property.
Visitation was from noon Saturday at Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in White Hall, where funeral services were at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Keith Hendrickson officiating. Organist Jean Coates played "The Old Rugged Cross," "How Great Thou Art," and "Just a Closer Walk."
Casketbearers were Lyndell Ford, Mike Moffitt Jr., Corey McEvers, Harry Sterkel, Ed Collins and Nate Enochs. Burial was at White Hall Cemetery.

Albert Chester Johnson, age 75, of Roodhouse, died early Sunday morning, July 4, 2004 at his residence. He was born Dec. 18, 1928 in Jacksonville, the son of Chester Arthur and Gladys Elsie Jenson Johnson.
He married A. Darlene Nieukirk on Dec. 3, 1948 and she survives.
He is also survived by one son, Albert M. (wife, Sue) Johnson of Douglasville, GA; three daughters, Ardella Evans of Pekin; Pam (husband, Scott) Simpson of Mapleton and Cathy Stark of Chattanooga, TN; nine grandchildren, Scott Johnson, Wayne Johnson, Chesera Owens, Jessica Evans, Carrissa Burge, Sarah Caunter, Danny Keith, Missy Dempsy and Cindy Stark; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Doris Thome and Mary Taggart, both of Colorado Springs, CO; one brother, John Johnson of Colorado Springs, CO; several nieces and nephews and one aunt, Grace Daniels of Jacksonville and his faithful Yorkshire Terrier, Peggy.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Jane Williams.
Mr. Johnson was a volunteer police officer in North Pekin and worked at Caterpillar Tractor Co. in East Peoria for 32 ? years until he retired and moved to Roodhouse in 1978.
He was a member of the Gentle Shepherd Church in White Hall and Fast Peoria Odd Fellows #668 where he was a Past Grand. He also worked at Wal-Mart in Jacksonville for 12 years.
Known for his love of children, he spent 6 ? years as a volunteer crossing guard for the grade school children in Roodhouse and also volunteered his time in the classroom helping the children with their reading.
Albert touched many lives during his time on this earth and will be missed by everyone who knew him.
Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Roodhouse with burial at a later date at the White Hall Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Blessing Hospice of Greene County or the Gentle Shepherd Church in White Hall.

JERSEYVILLE - Judith Anne Kuhnline, 39, died unexpectedly at 9:15 a.m. Friday, Oct. 20, 1995, in the emergency room at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville.
She was a homemaker and a secretary for the Tri-County Counseling Service in Jerseyville, where she had been for the past 11/2 years. She was a 1974 graduate of Carrollton High School and an active member of the Parent Teacher Association at West Elementary School in Jerseyville.
Born in Carrollton Feb. 21, 1956, she was the daughter of Lilalee (Tebo) Naber of Monroe, Mich., and Marvin Naber of Clearwater, Fla.
She married Dan L. Kuhnline Sept. 20, 1974, in Carrollton. He survives.
In addition to her husband and parents, surviving are a daughter, Dana Kuhnline at home; three sons, Theodore and Grady Kuhnline, both at home, and Matthew Kuhnline, a junior at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale; two sisters, Erenda Garner of Monroe and Jane Marceau of Albuquerque, N.M.; a brother, Steve Naber of Jacksonville; her stepmother, Barbara Naber of Clearwater; and two stepbrothers, Michael McCadden of Enid, Okla., and Kevin McCadden of Michigan.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville.
Visitation continues from 10 a.m. Monday until service time at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Carrollton. The Rev. Jerry Belden will officiate.

Dr. Dean Herbert Langer, 80, of White Hall died Wednesday morning, Sept. 8, 2004, at his residence.
He was born July 16, 1924, in Eldred, the son of Louis and Goldie (Owens) Langer. He married Margaret Ann Varner Aug. 28, 1948, in St. Cloud, Minn., and she survives.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Matthew Langer of Chicago and Christian Langer of Jacksonville; a daughter, Mary Langer of Richmond, Va.; a nephew; and a sister-in-law, Pauline Langer of Carrollton.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald Langer and Darrell Langer.
Dr. Langer attended Eldred High School for three years and graduated from Carrollton High School in 1942. He was a graduate of St. Louis School of Dentistry in 1948. He practiced dentistry in White Hall and taught at SIU School of Dentistry and Lewis and Clark Community College. He was a member of the American Dental Association and the Illinois Dental Association, Madison District. He was a captain in the U.S. Army Dental Corps in Berlin, Germany from 1954 to 1956. He was a member of the White Hall American Legion Post 70, the White Hall VFW Post 7684, the White Hall Lions Club, the White Hall Chamber of Commerce, and a charter member of the White Hall Jaycees. He served on the White Hall City Council and the White Hall School Board. He also served on the Board of Directors for the State Bank of Eldred, Pathway Services, Inc., the Greene County Public Health Department, and the Tri-County Mental Health Services. He was a volunteer for the White Hall Meals on Wheels.
Visitation was from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Friday at All Saints Catholic Church in White Hall, until a memorial Mass at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Henry Schmidt and the Rev. Joseph O'Reilly officiating. Mass servers were Morgan Smith and Nicole Keller. Readings were given by his daughter, Mary Langer. Offering of the gifts were made by his son, Christian Langer, and Carrie Grady. Pianist Nancy Moulton, guitarist "Paddy" Keller and vocalist Cindy Carlson sang "You Are Near, "I Have Loved You," "Ubi Caritas" and "Song of Farewell."
Burial of the cremains was held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the White Hall Cemetery with Rev. Schmidt officiating.
Memorials are suggested to the Jacksonville Saints Special Olympics, White Hall Meals on Wheels, or All Saints Catholic Church.

Coroner J. Russell Shields conducted an inquest at the Dawdy Funeral Home in White Hall following the death of Leander (Pete) Lawson, aged 70 years, an employee of the White Hall Sewer Pipe Company for 35 years. He was injured fatally when a horse he was driving ran away at the plant when the animal was frightened by a train. He was hauling coal in a dump cart when the accident occurred. He died while on the way to the White Hall Hospital

James I. Martin, 83, of White Hall died Thursday, Aug. 19, 2004, at his residence.
He was born Feb. 7, 1921, in Roodhouse, the son of Horace O. and Sarah J. Martin. He married Maureen Patterson June 12, 1944, in Mackay Queensland, Australia, and she survives.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Charles (wife Pat) Martin of Jacksonville and Raymond Martin of Carbondale; a daughter, Julie (husband Mancel) Day of Winchester; four grandchildren, Matthew (wife Letta) Martin, Timothy Martin, Steven Day and Kelly (husband Adam) Sims; three sisters, Martha (husband Norman) Ward of White Hall, Harriett Crossman of Jacksonville and Jeanette Weber of Carrollton; a brother, William Martin of White Hall; and a brother-in-law, Pat Oswald of Washington.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Martin in infancy and Joyce Martin Oswald; a daughter-in-law, Chris Picou Martin; two brothers-in-law, Don Crossman and Paul Weber; and a sister-in-law, Vera Martin.
Mr. Martin retired in 1983 from the North Greene School District where he was the transportation supervisor and chief bus mechanic for 17 years. Prior employment included several years at Nell Chevrolet in Greenfield and 17 years as a welder/pipefitter at Laclede Steel in Alton. He was also a minister of the gospel, called to preach in 1957. He preached in several area Southern Baptist churches until his health no longer allowed him to continue. He was a four year veteran of World War II. While stationed in the Southwest Pacific with the 5th Army Air Corps, he met his wife-to-be, Maureen.
Visitation was Sunday at Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in White Hall, where funeral services were at 11 a.m. Monday with the Rev. Ken Barger officiating. Mr. Martin's son, Charles, read a poem. Organist Jean Coates played "Because" and sang "In Loving Kindness, Jesus Came" and "He Washed My Eyes With Tears."
Casketbearers were Mancel Day, Matthew Martin, Timothy Martin, Steven Day, Kelly Jo Sims and Bill Martin. Burial was at White Hall Cemetery where Stephanie McNeely played "Taps."

Joan Forrester McLamar, 75, of Roodhouse died Friday, April 30, 2004, at St. John's Hospice in Springfield.
She was born March 25, 1929, in Roodhouse, the daughter of William and Gladys (Clark) Forrester. She married Byron McLamar June 6, 1948, at the McLamar family farm in Roodhouse, and he survives.
Surviving in addition to her husband are two sons, Steven (wife Sarah) McLamar of Duluth, Ga., and Rex (wife Talleen) McLamar of Hudson, Fla.; two daughters, Linda (husband Ron) Payne of Winchester and Karen (husband Troy) Fishel of Sherman; 12 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; an aunt; three nephews; a cousin; a sister-in-law, Connie Forrester of Sun City, Calif.; and five great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by twin infant sons; and twin brothers, Bill Forrester and Jack Forrester.
Mrs. McLamar was a lifetime resident of Roodhouse, graduating from Roodhouse High School in 1947. She was an active member of two bridge clubs, one in Roodhouse and one in White Hall. She was a member of the Roodhouse United Methodist Church.
Visitation was Sunday at Mackey-Daws Funeral Home in Roodhouse, where funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. Monday with the Rev. Gerald Phillips and the Rev. Rex Beard officiating. Organist Muriel Reagor played "In the Garden," "Be Still My Soul," and "Amazing Grace."
Casketbearers were Eric Lakin, Chad McLamar, Mick Johnston, Eric Kunkel, Harold Bushnell and Bob Dean. Honorary bearers were Myron McClenning, Bill Israel, Ray Denny, Russell Ash, Ron Martin and Bob Vinyard. Burial was at White Hall Cemetery.

Michael E. Nash, 52, of rural White Hall, died Saturday evening, June 12, 2004 near his home. He was born Oct. 24, 1951 in Chicago, the son of Melvin and Louise Vinyard Nash. He married Brenda Sue Short Oct. 24, 1979 in Roodhouse and she survives.
He is also survived by three daughters, Amy (husband, Jeremy) Jones of Roodhouse; Amber Nash of White Hall; and Amanda Nash at home; one granddaughter, Sarah McEvers; one sister, Stephanie McNeely of Lynnville; and two brothers, Rodney Nash of Hamburg, N.Y. and James Nash of Highlands, Texas.
He graduated from North Greene High School in 1969. He painted with his father in the area for several years. He worked as a truck driver for Ill-Mo Welding in Jacksonville for approximately 13 years and was currently driving for ATI at Woodson. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers football fan and loved his wife, kids and granddaughter and was looking forward to a new grandchild in September. He was a member of the Walkerville Baptist Church and the former Hillview Masonic Lodge.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 15, at the White Hall First Christian Church with burial at the White Hall Cemetery.

Steven R. Pollard, 47, of Jacksonville, formerly of White Hall, died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2004 at his residence.
He was born July 18, 1957 in Wood River, the son of Frank and Fern Garrison Holman.
He is survived by five sisters, Regina L. Pollard of Bethalto, Theresa Pollard, Linda Dyer, Cathy Strampp and Veda Baker, all of Jacksonville; and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Frank Holman and his mother, Fern "Sis" Smith. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Kathy Holman and three brothers, David, Carl and Wayne Pollard.
Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, 2004 at the White Hall Cemetery with Rev. Bill Martin officiating. Memorials are suggested to the family. Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in White Hall was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Goldie Irene Rienbolt, 86, of Jacksonville died Saturday, Oct. 23, 2004, at Barton W. Stone Christian Home in Jacksonville.
She was born Feb. 2, 1918, in Greene County, the daughter of Jasper and Iva Short Nolan. She married Howard Rienbolt in August of 1941, and he died July 7, 1975.
She is survived by a brother, Howard (wife Janet) Nolan of Riverside, Calif.; a sister, Mary Hilda Vincent of Noblesville, Ind.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceding her in death were four brothers, John Nolan, Lawrence Nolan, Paul Nolan and Robert Nolan; two sisters, Ruth Rochester and Ethel Ash; and an infant sister.
Mrs. Rienbolt was a homemaker and proof-reader for the Braille Publications of the Lutheran Library. She was a graduate of Illinois School for the Visually Impaired and MacMurray College. She was a member of Central Christian Church and a former member of Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church.
Visitation will be from noon to day, Thursday, at Williamson Funeral Home in Jacksonville, until funeral service time at 2 p.m. Burial will be at White Hall Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the Mary Bryant Home for the Blind Association or the Illinois School for the Visually Impaired.

Former White Hall resident Eugene Piper Ross, 85, of Bentonville, Ark., died Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2004, at Bentonville Manor Nursing Home.
He was born Sept. 8, 1919, near White Hall, the son of Arnold Edward and Grace E. (Piper) Ross. He married Geraldine Irlam Bowen May 2, 1959, in White Hall, and she survives.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a brother, Gherald (wife Vivian) Ross of White Hall; a stepgrandson, Nathan Bowen; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a stepson, Gerald Bowen.
Mr. Ross served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps from 1942-1945 in the European Theater operation. He was a member of the White Hall American Legion Post 70 and the W.W. Church of God. He was reared on a farm, worked as a mechanic, made building stones and built the home where his wife currently resides.
Graveside memorial services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the White Hall Cemetery with the Rev. Bill Martin officiating. Military services were conducted by the White Hall VFW Post 7684. Assisting with the service were commander Kenny Crabtree, color guard William Dirksmeyer and Earl Spangenberg, firing squad Robert Dean, Clem Coats, William Seymoure, Jesse Young and Sam Taylor, and bugler Stephanie McNeely.

Mrs. Dorothy Kathleen Schlinker, 80, of Jacksonville died Monday, May 10, 2004, at Jacksonville Convalescent Center in Jacksonville.
She was born June 3, 1923, in Batchtown, the daughter of William and Mary (Richter) Simpson. She married Howard Blackorby June 9, 1942, and he died June 21, 1964. She married Harold Schlinker Oct. 10, 1970, and he died Jan. 16, 1998.
She is survived by a son, Tom (wife Dianna) Blackorby of Arenzville; a daughter, Margaret (husband Lindle) Wade of Detroit; five grand-children, Tammy (husband Larry) Lind of Pittsfield, Steven (wife Lisa) Wade of Jacksonville, Sandra (husband Mike) Funk of Pittsfield, Candace (husband Jimmy) Seiz of Waverly, and William (wife Jeannine) Blackorby of Morristown, Tenn.; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Jerry (wife Yvonne) Simpson of Eldred; a sister, Evelyn Lowder of Jerseyville; and a sister-in-law, Marcella Richter of Jerseyville.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Simpson and William Simpson; and a sister, Vera Blackorby.
A member of the Church of Our Saviour, Mrs. Schlinker worked at Brown Shoe Company in Jerseyville for several years before spending 20 years as a seamstress at Twin Cities Manufacturing.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Thursday, at Williamson Funeral Home in Jacksonville, where a prayer services will be conducted at 5:45 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Church of Our Saviour in Jacksonville. Burial will be at White Hall Cemetery.

Shirley A. Schuman, 69, died at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2004, at Alton Memorial Hospital.
She was born July 14, 1935, in White Hall to Otto and Etta (Greenberg) Lyman.
She married Robert F. Schuman on Oct. 3, 1958, in Carrollton. He survives.
She was a 1953 graduate of White Hall High School.
In addition to her husband, survivors include one son, Stephen R. Schuman of Godfrey; one brother and sister-in-law, Boris and Miriam Lyman of White Hall; three nieces; two nephews; several cousins; an aunt; and her beloved dog and companion, Sir Taz.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Norma Lyman; and several aunts and uncles.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Gent Funeral Home in Alton.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at White Hall Cemetery. The Rev. William Martin will officiate.

Miss Gladys Louise Spencer, 85, of White Hall died Monday morning, Aug. 23, 2004, at Modern Care Convalescent Facility in Jacksonville.
She was born Feb. 28, 1919, in Carrollton, the daughter of Fred Brown and Myrtle May (Martin) Spencer.
She is survived by two sisters, Marjorie Painter of Arlington, Va., and Joanne Sitton of White Hall; and a brother, Fred B. Spencer of Lancaster, Pa.
Preceding her in death were two sisters, Wilma A. Spencer and Jean M. Cipolla.
Miss Spencer became a member of the White Hall First Baptist Church during her youth and was very faithful in supporting her church in attendance and service. After graduating from high school, she received her registered nurse degree at St. Mary's Hospital in East St. Louis where she served many years before returning to White Hall and working at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville.

Arnold E. Taylor, 83, died Wednesday morning, June 9, 2004, at Boyd Memorial Hospital in Carrollton.
He was born June 7, 1921, in Eldred, the son of Alfred Henry and Lula Adaline (Tucker) Taylor.
He married Vera M. Tillery Aug. 25, 1941, in St. Charles, Mo. She died May 28, 2003.
He drove a bulk gasoline truck for Shell Oil Company in Carrollton, then was a truck driver for the White Hall Sewer Pipe & Stoneware Company. He worked a number of years at Affiliated Laboratory and then owned and operated the Shell filling station, both in White Hall, for several years. He then worked as a mechanic for Mobil Chemical in Jacksonville for many years, retiring in 1983.
He is survived by a son and his wife, Lyndell and Barbara Taylor of Roodhouse; five grandchildren, Annette Gillis, Linda Kaye Vormezeele, Melissa Zoerner, Debbie King and Lyndell Taylor Jr.; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Esta Flowers of Carrollton.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by five brothers, William, John, Curtis, Raymond and Charles Alvin Taylor; and three sisters, Thelma Hires, Mary Wollenweber and Roberta Taylor.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Carrollton.
Burial will be at White Hall Cemetery.

Harvey Harold Turner, age 80, of rural Roodhouse, died Tuesday morning, Sept. 7, 2004 at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville.
He was born June 19, 1924 near Franklin, the son of Jesse Wyman and Clara Belle Fairburn Turner.
He married Doris JoAnn Hardwick on March 7, 1959 in White Hall and she preceded him in death on Dec. 7, 1998.
He is survived by one daughter, Patricia (husband, John) Damm of rural White Hall and two grandsons, Jamie and Justin Damm. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Olive Sturdy and Leota Blankenbecker.
Mr. Turner lived and farmed east of Roodhouse for 50 years, never fully retiring. He was a member of the Greene County Farm Bureau and was of the Baptist faith.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 9, 2004 at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in White Hall with burial at the White Hall Cemetery.

Bernard Nyle Vestel, age 81, of White Hall, died Tuesday afternoon, June 1, 2004, at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville.
He was born Oct. 18, 1922 in Hillview, the son of Claude and Mildred Surbeck Vestel.
He married Ruth Ada Conlee Oct. 2, 1947 in White Hall and she survives.
He is also survived by one son, Bernie Nyle (wife, Connie) Vestel of Murrayville; two daughters, Suzie (husband, Gary) Frioli of Sioux Falls, SD and Jill Gibson (friend, Clete Wilson) of Columbia; five grandchildren, Kelly Gilbert of Murrayville; David Frioli and Trista (husband, Shannon) Brown, both of Sioux Falls, SD; Alexa Gibson of Chicago and Erica (husband, Seneca) Cayson of St. Louis, Mo.; five great-grandchildren, Katie Gilbert, Parker Brown, Phoebe Estel Brown, Seneca Cayson and Enyjah Cayson. He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Wayne Vestel.
Nyle attended Hillview and White Hall schools and the University of Illinois. He was a World War II veteran. He joined the Army in 1944 and served as a Second Lieutenant. He was also a veteran of the Korean War in which he served in the 485th Engineering Company. He was a long-time member of the White Hall American Legion Post 70. Nyle began his career as a State Trooper. He later worked as an investigator for the Department of Public Aid in both Springfield and Winchester. He retired in 1982. He was a member of the First Christian Church of White Hall.

George W. Vinyard, 80, of White Hall, died Tuesday morning, Nov. 23, 2004, at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville.
He was born Feb. 22, 1924, in Walkerville, the son of Rodney Earl and Dora Wood Vinyard. He married Aileen Christen on July 27, 1947, in White Hall, and she preceded him in death June 29, 1989.
He is survived by two sons, George A. (wife, Judith) of Oak Park and Earl Vinyard of Fresno, Calif.; two grandchildren, G. Christen Vinyard and Claire A. Vinyard, both of Madison, Wis.; two brothers, Vernon (wife, Clarice) of Post Falls, Idaho and John (wife, Paula) of White Hall; and one sister, Ella (husband, Glenn) Dunphy of White Hall. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Francis and Donald; and one sister, Lucille Vinyard.
Mr. Vinyard graduated from White Hall High School in 1941. He served in the Army National Guard during the Korean conflict and was a member of the White Hall American Legion Post 70. He farmed in the White Hall and Roodhouse area since 1952 and continued to operate the farm until his death. He was a member of the White Hall United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in White Hall, with burial at White Hall Cemetery. Family will meet friends from 3-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Nellie White, 96, formerly of Alton, died at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 24, 2004, at Boyd Community Hospital in Carrollton.
She was born Feb. 19, 1908, east of Manchester, Ill., to Paul S. and Mildred (Swarringin) Castleberry.
She married the Rev. Paul White on June 25, 1929, in Alton. He died June 20, 1984.
A homemaker, she was a member of the Trinity Pentecostal Tabernacle in Wood River.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and great-great- nieces and great-great-nephews.
She was also preceded in death by eight brothers and three sisters.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at White Hall Cemetery in White Hall.

Annadell V. Williams, age 86, of White Hall, died early Monday morning, Sept. 27, 2004 at the White Hall Multicare Center.
She was born April 27, 1918 in Walkerville, the daughter of Clifford and Anna Shackelford Cox.
She married Reginald C. Williams Nov. 6, 1937 in Bowling Green, Mo. and he preceded her in death July 5, 2003.
She is survived by two nieces, Audie Goben and Beverly Howard, both of White Hall; two nephews, Terry Bateman of Bethalto and Jim Bateman of East Alton and several great, great-great and great-great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one sister, Isabell Bateman.
Mrs. Williams was a bookkeeper for Beecham Laboratory in White Hall for 26 years, retiring in 1979. She was a member of the White Hall First Christian Church and the Hillview Royal Neighbors of America. She enjoyed quilting and playing the piano.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2004 at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in White Hall with burial at the White Hall Cemetery. The family will meet friends two hours prior to services Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the White Hall First Christian Church.
