Congratulations to Cadet Christina Carter from O'Fallon Township High
School who received the JROTC certificate and medal at ceremonies at
the school's Milburn Campus on April 27, 2022. Presenting the award was
Julie Wood Barnes, State President N.S.U.S.D. of 1812, State of

The Kaskaskia Chapter presented the USD1812 JROTC certificate and

Patricia Hopkins-Price (left in red) from the Sangamon River Chapter
presented a program on cockades during the joint meeting with the
Illinois Society of the War of 1812 at Hill's Fort in October 2019.
State President Leah Beckhoff (center) presented a check to Hill's Fort
Society president Eric Reelitz (left) and state president of the
Illinois Society War of 1812 Robert Ridenour to be used in furthering
reconstruction at Hill's Fort. The money was earmarked from funds for
the Illilnois pin.
The chapter was delighted to host state president Leah Beckhoff's visit and enjoyed the program on cockades by Patricia.
Members of the Kaskaskia Chapter participated in a dedication ceremony
for a fence surrounding the grave of Captain Benjamin Godfrey, War of
1812 veteran and founder of Godfrey, Illinois on October 21, 2018. The
chapter donated to the project. The ceremony was sponsored by the
Ninian Edwards Chapter, DAR.
Chapter members met in Mt. Vernon, Illinois on July 13, 2019.

Cadet Kimberly Davenport was the recipient of the US Daughters of 1812
certificate and medal presented at the awards banquet on May 6, 2017.

Cadet 2nd LT Aspen Caldwell was the recipient of the US Daughters of
1812 certificate and medal presented at the awards banquet on April 20,
2017. She is a member of the AFROTC at Mascoutah High School. She is

The Kaskaskia Chapter hosted the 2017 State Council meeting at the
Grace Lutheran Church in Springfield on March 11th. Here chapter

The Illinois Society of the War of 1812 provided color guard for a
grave marking hosted by the Kaskaskia Chapter United States Daughters
of 1812 on September 11, 2016, at the Godfrey Cemetery in Godfrey,
Illinois. The ceremony honored War of 1812 veteran Seaman Benjamin
Godfrey. Other groups participating in this ceremony were Ninian
Edwards Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the
Benjamin Godfrey Legacy Trail Committee, and the Village of Godfrey.
Members of the Kaskaskia Chapter along with the Illinois Society of the
War of 1812 commemorated the 201st
anniversary of the attack on Hill's Fort.
Members of the Kaskaskia Chapter and Sangamon River Chapter attended a
grave marking ceremony honoring War of 1812 soldier Captain Jacob
Short. The ceremony was held at the Old Concord Cemetery near
Petersburg on July 18, 2015. Captain Short commanded a company of
mounted riflemen called into service to protect settlers in Illinois
Territory.
Members of the Kaskaskia Chapter met at the Mt. Vernon airport on March
7, 2015 to elect and install officers and to listen to a program on the
Battle of New Orleans commemoration presented by Karen Bauer-Reelitz.
The Kaskaskia Chapter USD1812 dedicated this plaque during a ceremony
held at Hill's Fort in Greenville, Ill. on September 14, 2014.
The event was part of a three day commemoration of the attack on Hill's
Fort. Several descendants of those brave men and women who were at the
fort that day attended. Click on the picture to see a larger view.
Chapter registrar/state president Lola DeGroff (right) with President
National Apyer during the National Society of the War of 1812 held its
Triennial in Baltimore, Maryland in September 2014. The President
National dedicated the cannon (below) which was purchased by the
USD1812 for Fort McHenry.

Day, June 14, 2014, the Kaskaskia Chapter marked the grave of "Real
Daughter" Charlotte Maletha Balch Sapp. Mrs. Sapp was the
daughter of Amos Prido Balch. She is buried in the Union Grove
Cemetery, LaGrange Township, Bond County, Illinois. The day was made
even more special as
Charlotte's great granddaughter read a tribute Charlotte had written to
her father. Pictured are descendants and Eric Reelitz and Grant
Thole from the Illinois Society of the War of 1812.

Kaskaskia
Chapter Registrar Lola DeGroff presents the JROTC Bronze Medal to Cadet
Nathan Beckstrom. The award was presented during the JROTC Awards
Program dinner at Alton High School on May 3, 2014. The USD1812
Bronze Medal is presented to a junior or senior in a JROTC program in a
high school who has demonstrated qualities of academic excellence,
leadership, military discipline, dependability patriotism and upright
character in speech and habits, which exemplify the ideals upon which
our nation was founded.
Kaskaskia
members were attending a conference so James DeGroff presented the
USD1812 ROTC Gold Medal to Cadet Michael Hoxsie of Brighton. The award
was made during an award ceremony at SIU-E on April 24, 2014. The
award is given annual to a junior or senior in an ROTC program in a
university or college who has demonstrated qualities of academic
excellence, leadership, military discipline, dependability, patriotism
and upright character in speech and habits, which exemplify the ideals
upon which our nation was founded.
Grave marking for Real Daughter Mary Burgess Johnson, daughter of

was marked at the Burgess Cemetery on October 12, 2013.

Descendants of War of 1812 soldier Samuel A. Whiteside whose grave was
marked in a ceremony at Hunter Cemetery,
Christian
County, Illinois, on October 5, 2013. The Kaskaskia Chapter
sponsored the event along with the Society of the War of 1812 in
Illinois, the Sangamon River Chapter, USD1812, and the Illinois War of
1812 Bicentennial Commission.
The
Kaskaskia Chapter marked the grave of Real Daughter Elizabeth Lindley
Harbour during ceremonies held at the Oak Grove Cemetery, Chatham,
Illinois, on October 5, 2013. Elizabeth was the daughter of
Samuel Lindley, Sr., a War of 1812 soldier.

Kaskaskia
Chapter co-sponsored along with the David Farragut
Chapter, the grave marking of War of 1812 soldier David Austin.
The marking took place at the Mud Run Cemetery, Cowden, Illinois,
on August 2, 2013.
Chapter members enjoyed a tour of the Colonel Benjamin Stephenson House
following the chapter meeting on June 22, 2013.
Benjamin
Stephenson was one of the founding fathers of both the city of
Edwardsville and the State of Illinois. With his good friend and
political ally Ninian Edwards, the third Governor of the State of
Illinois and namesake for the city of Edwardsville, Stephenson was
instrumental in bringing law and order to the developing Illinois
Territory. Stephenson was a merchant, sheriff, bank president,
Colonel in the Illinois militia, road commissioner, Indian agent, and
member of the Edwardsville Board of Trustees. He was also one of 33 men
who helped design the Illinois Constitution. Of those 33, his is the
only home still in existence.
On
Memorial Day weekend, May 26, 2013, the Kaskaskia Chapter marked the
grave of Aaron Rule. He was born in Virginia March 1794. His
parents were Henry Rule, Jr., and Lucy LeRoy. He served from
September 1814 to April 1815 as a private under Captain George Sarver
in Colonel Alexander Loury's Second Regiment, West Tennessee Militia.
He married Elizabeth McAdams in Sumner County, Tennessee on February
10, 1816. They had 10 children. Aaron Rule died on March
29, 1873.
Cadet
Kaitlyn Sanchez,Mascoutah High School JROTC program, received the
USD1812 medal and certificate from the Kaskaskia Chapter during
ceremonies held at the school on April 25, 2013.

to Cadet Daniel L. Huge from SIU-Edwardsville who received the USD 1812
medal on April 25, 2013. He is congratulated by Jim DeGroff, State
President Illinois Society of the War of 1812.
Congratulations
to Cadet Rea Gilbert from East Richland High School in Olney, Illinois
on receiving the United States Daughters of 1812 medal and certificate
during awards ceremony in April 2013. The award was presented by Major
Roy R. Waldhoff, senior Army instructor.

The
Kaskaskia Chapter nominated Charles B. Schweizer for the Spirit of 1812
Award which was presented to him at the state council meeting on March
2, 2013. Charles received a standing ovation from those attending.
On
September 23, 2012, the Kaskaskia Chapter marked the graves of
War of 1812 soldiers Captain Samuel Judy, his son-in-law Private
Ambrose Nix, and Ambrose's brother David Nix. All are buried in the
historic Nix-Judy Pioneer Cemetery in Glen Carbon, Illinois.
The
Kaskaskia Chapter participated in the Kaskaskia College Alumni &
Friends "Celebrating the 200th Anniversary of the War of 1812" event at
Kaskaskia College, Centralia, Illinois, on September 22, 2012. Members
wore period clothing and talked to people about what was happening in
Illinois Territory during the 1812-1815 time period. Above Jessie

Kaskaskia Chapter marked the grave of Private John Correll who served
in the North Carolina Militia during the War of 1812. Shown are

Descendants
of Morris May gathered at Kirkland Cemetery in Sorento, Illinois, to
honor May who served in Captain Willis Hargrave's Company of Mounted
Volunteers as part of the Illinois Militia during the War of 1812.
Morris May was born July 22, 1791 in Georgia and died in 1854.
His wife, Martha (Patsy) is buried next to him. Shown with
the descendants are members of the Headquarters Rangers.

Isham
Reavis was born in Surry Co., N.C. in 1779. He died in Bond Co.,
IL on September 24, 1844. Reavis, the son of Henry Reavis and
Poly Bickerstaff, married first Mary Reavis and second Nancy Rhodes.
His children: Cynthia A., Elizabeth, Priscilla,
Elisabeth Delilah, Amanda Melvina Fitzallen, Zachary Taylor, Ewing H.,
Hiram Wilbulrton, Isham Terrill, Mathilda, and Jonas Rhodes Reavis.
