Dorothy Fae Norris
Dorothy Fae Norris, 85, of Waltonville died 12:30 a.m. April 2, 2006,
at her home.
Mrs. Norris was born Dec. 15, 1920, in Waltonville to Orval Fae and
Dorothy Belle (Newell) Mannen. She married Louis T. Norris July 22, 1945,
in Mt. Vernon; he survives in Waltonville.
Mrs. Norris was a retired school teacher, having taught in a one-room school
called Williamsburg, Edison School Mt. Vernon and Waltonville Grade School.
She was a member of the Universalist Church in Waltonville and the Retired
Teachers Association. She was a lifetime member of the State Teachers
Association, Waltonville Prairie Historians, AMVETS Post 148 Ladies
Auxiliary and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9153 Ladies Auxiliary and a life
member of Royal Neighbors, the Jefferson County Historical Society and
Rebekah Lodge of Waltonville. She was an early 4-H member and volunteer
and one of the founders of the Waltonville Sunshine Center.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Newell Funeral Home in
Waltonville, with the Rev John Clark officiating. Burial will follow at Knob
Prairie Cemetery in Waltonville. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m.
Tuesday at Newell Funeral Home in Waltonville.
Mrs. Norris is survived by her husband, Louis T. Norris of Waltonville; a
daughter, Frances and husband David Cook of Scheller; two sons, Joe Norris and
wife Joyce of Waltonville and Steve Norris and wife Donna of Waltonville; five
grandchildren, Sarah Cook, Jason Cook, Ashley Norris, Lindsay Norris and Wesley
Norris; and several brothers and sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Donald Howard Norris,
and a brother, Dwight Mannen.
For those who wish, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Knob Prairie
Cemetery, the Universalist Church, Hospice of Southern Illinois, the Jefferson
County Retired Teachers Scholarship Fund or the donor's choice and will be accepted
at the funeral home or may be mailed to Newell Funeral Home, 505 East Main St.
