Vera C. Newell

Mrs. Vera C. Newell, 78, of Route 2, Mt. Vernon, died at 10:25 
p.m. Wednesday at Good Samaritan Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Shiloh 
Methodist church, of which she was a member, with the Rev. Leroy Dude 
officiating.  Burial will be in New Shiloh cemetery.

The body will lie in state at Myers Chapel, where friends may call 
after 4:00 p.m. Friday.  At noon Saturday, the body will be taken to the 
church to lie in state until the funeral hour.

Mrs. Newell was born December 1, 1889, in Belle Rive, the daughter of 
Thomas and Laura (Maxey) McPherson.

She was married to James P. Newell, who died in 1964.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Mary Mills of Bluford and Faye 
Simpson of Gurnee, Ill.; four sons, Orval, Thomas and Dean, all of Mt. 
Vernon and Maxey of Downers Grove; one brother, Onis McPherson, Dahlgren; 
two sisters, Flossie McLaughlin of Mt. Vernon and Stella McLaughlin of 
Paducah, Ky., and 17 grandchildren.
