At Age 79


Mason Newell, 79, Scheller, died 6 a.m. Oct. 1, 1990, at his home.

Mr. Newell was a farmer until retirement.

He was born Dec. 5, 1910, in Jefferson County, a son of Walter Raleigh and 
Idella (Mason) Newell.  Aug. 25, 1934, in Dix, he married Kathryn Jeffries, 
who survives.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Fry and Frick Funeral Home in Waltonville 
with the Rev. Tom Brewer officiating.  Burial will follow in Knob Prairie Cemetery.

Friends may call 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Newell is survived by one son Philip Newell of 
Rochester; three brothers, Herbert Newell of Waltonville and Albert and 
Walter Raleigh Newell, Jr., both of Mt. Vernon; two sisters, Mrs. Ruth Moore of 
Denver and Mrs. Tommy (Rose Mary) Atkins of Mt. Vernon; eight grandchildren; and 
one great-grandchild.

Mr. Newell was a member of the Waltonville United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Lee and Allen Newell, and one 
brother, Marion Newell.

Memorials may be made to Waltonville United Methodist Church or Know Prairie Cemetery 
and will be accepted at the funeral home.
