Mary Kathryn Newell
 
Mary Kathryn Newell, 87, of Scheller passed away 8 p.m. Nov. 12, 2000 at 
Crossroads Hospital.  

She was born May 30, 1913, to Iva Mae and Raymond A. Jeffries of Kell.  
   
On August 25, 1934 she married Mason Newell of Waltonville.  They later moved 
to Scheller, where they were engaged in farming.  They had three sons: James Philip, 
Mason Alan, and Evan Lee.
She was a member of the Waltonville United Methodist Church and was a homemaker and 
a charter member of the Jefferson County Association for Home and Community Education.
   
She is survived by one son, James Phillip and wife Karen of Scheller; former daughter-in-law, 
Charlet Nowland and husband Gale of Waltonville; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
   
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, her husband and two sons.
   
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Newell Funeral home in Mount Vernon 
with Randy Sells officiating.  Burial will follow at Know Prairie Cemetery.
Visitation hours are  5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.   Memorial contributions may 
be made to the American Heart Association.
