Mrs Ida Etta Newell, widow of Ichabod Newell, died at 7 o'clock this

Her age was 75 years, 1 month and 12 days.

She was born near Old Williamsburg, July 5, 1859.

Mrs Newell is survived by three children, W. R. Newell, James P. Newell
and Mrs. Walton Hodge, all of Waltonville; thirteen grandchildren, and
one great-grandchild; two brothers, Chas. T. Philp, Grover, Colo.,
Walter Philp, Waltonville, and two sisters, Mrs. W.N. Dodds, Mt. Vernon,
and Mrs. George McMeen, Denver, Colo. Two sisters, died in childhood.
One brother, Dr. Harry Philp of Benton, died in March, 1933.

Mrs. Newell was the second daughter of the late James W. and Augusta
Kinne Philp.

Her husband, to whom she was married June 23, 1878, died in March,
1910.

Mrs. Newell's death was due to typhoid fever. She was one of the best
known and best loved women in the southwestern part of Jefferson County
and had many friends and relatives in Mt. Vernon. She had been a
member of the Waltonville M. E. church for about 50 years, having been
converted during a meeting held by Rev. J. C. Kinison. She was a regular
attendant at church services. No one was more faithful to the tenets of
the church and her character was above reproach.

Mrs. Newell was a practical christian and delighted in assisting others
when in her power, and was true to every obligation of life. She
continued the kindly ministrations characteristic of a well spent life,
until her last illness, having assisted in caring for a little neighbor
boy who had typhoid fever, until stricken herself about the first of
August.

Her body is at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Walton Hodge, and the
funeral will be held in the Waltonville M. E. church at 10 a.m. Sunday,
conducted by the Rev. J. C. Kinison.

Relatives are enroute from Colorado to attend the funeral.
