Henrietta Newell
Henrietta Newell, daughter of William and Sarah Woodrome Fred, was
born in Elk Prairie township in Jefferson county, Ill., Nov. 30, 1869;
died at her home, two miles of Waltonville, July 5, 1957, at the age of
88 years, 7 months and 5 days.
On March 30, 1803 she was united in marriage to George Newell, who
preceded her in death Oct. 25, 1922. To this union were born 3 children,
Oscar and Mrs. Myrtle Freeman of Waltonville, who survive, and one son
who died in infancy. She is also survived by two stepsons, John and Earl,
both of Waltonville: one sister, Maude Smith of Richview: two brothers,
Fount Fred of Montana, Steve Fred of Du Quoin; six grandchildren and thirteen
great grandchildren.
Besides her husband and infant son she was preceded in death by seven
stepchildren, Asa, Laura, Mina, Norman, Minnie, Margaret, and Lora and one
granddaughter Sadie Newell Dare.
In early life she attended the Baptist church at Horse Prairie and expressed
her readiness to go before she became so ill. She was a devoted wife, and mother
and showed a willingness to serve God by her devotion to her children and stepchildren.
She was happiest when able to lend a helping hand.
Sunset and evening star. And one clear call for me! And may there be no moaning
at the bar When I put out to sea. But such a tide as moving seems asleep: Too full
for sound and foam, When that which drew from out of the boundless deep Turns again home.
Twilight and evening bell And after that the dark! And may there be no sadness of farewell,
When I embark. For though from out our borne of time and place The flood may bear me far,
I hope to see my Pilot face to face, When I have crossed the bar.
We wish to express our sincere thanks to all the neighbors and friends who assisted
in any way at the time of the passing of Henrietta Newell. Also for the beautiful flowers,
the Fry Funeral Home and the singer and Rev. Marsh Harpoole for his words of comfort.
The Newell Family.
