Edna Beatrice Newell

Mrs. Edna Beatrice Newell, 70, of Waltonville, died at 2:25 p.m. 
Saturday at Good Samaritan Hospital.

Funeral services were to be held at 2 p.m. today at the Fry Funeral 
Chapel in Waltonville, with the Rev. Larry R. Bailey officiating.  
Burial was to be in Knob Prairie cemetery.

Mrs. Newell was born in Hamilton county on November 5, 1904, the 
daughter of Thomas and Leota (Mason) Jones.

She was married to Walter Raleigh Newell on Nov. 3, 1936, in 
Shawneetown.  He preceded her in death in July, 1956.

Mrs. Newell was a member of the First Baptist church in Mt. Vernon.

She is survived by three sons, Herbert, Albert and Walter Raleigh Jr., 
all of Waltonville; a daughter, Mrs. Tom (Rosemary) Atkins, of Mt. 
Vernon; two step-sons, Marion and Mason, both of Waltonville; a 
step-daughter, Mrs. Ruth Baker, of St. Louis; a brother, Archie Jones, 
of Mt. Vernon; two sisters, Mrs. Maurine Carter, of California, and Mrs. 
Gladys Beniard, of Gary, Ind.; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 
and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and three brothers.
