Oscar NEWELL, Waltonville: March 24, 1973
Oscar Newell, 77, a retired farmer, died at 4 p.m., Friday
at his home in Waltonville.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday at the Fry
Funeral Chapel at Waltonville with the Rev. Jim Piercy and
the Rev. Eddie Kamper oficiating. Burial will be in the Mt.
Vernon Memorial Gardens. The body will lie in state at the
Fry Funeral Home after 5 p.m., today.
Mr. Newell was born April 21, 1895 in Jefferson county, the
son of George and Henrietta (Fred) Newell. He was married
June 24, 1917 to Edna Shurtz who survives. Mr. Newell was a
veteran of World War I and a member of the Long Prairie
Christian Church and the Bates American Legion Post 560 at
Sesser. Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons,
Fred and Glenn of Waltonville and Arthur Ray of Bonnie;
one daughter, Mrs. Nina Lewis of Waltonville; one sister,
Mrs. Myrtle Freeman of Waltonville; fifteen grandchildren
and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by
his parents, one daughter, six brothers, four sisters
and two grandchildren.
