Dies At age 78
John Franklin Newbury, 78, of Waltonville, died at 2:35 p.m. Monday at
Jefferson Memorial Hospital. He was a retired farmer. Funeral services
will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Fry Funeral Home in Waltonville
with the Rev. Carl Williams officiating. Burial will be in Knob Prairie
cemetary. The body will lie in state at the Fry Funeral Home where friends
may call after 2:00 p.m. today.
Mr. Newbury was born Nov. 27, 1882, in Jefferson county, the son of Logan and
Ann (Shurtz) Newbury. On Feb. 21, 1905, he was married to Nellie Carver, who
preceded him in death April 24, 1927. On July 3, 1928, he was married to
Minnie Johnson, who survives. He is also survived by three daughters, Mrs. Hattie Boyd
of Englewood, Calif., Mrs. Alreva Fagan of Effingham, and Mrs. Lola Mae Brooks of
Sauk Village, Ill.; one brother, Joe Newbury of Sesser; two sisters, Mrs. Lena Quinn
and Mrs. Anna Fred, both of Waltonville; and seven grandchildren. Mr. Newbury was a
member of the Modern Woodmen of America and the Odd Fellows Lodge of Waltonville.
