Fern I. Nelson
Miss Fern Nelson, 29, died at her home, 322 south Forth street in Mt. Vernon, at 5:30 am
today after a long illness.
Born October 3, 1917, in Field township, she was the daughter of Charles D. and LaVada (Hayes) Nelson.
She was a member of the Zion Methodist Church since girlhood.
Funeral services will be held at Hopewell Methodist Church Sunday at 2 pm, conducted by the
Rev. E. D. Moore of Mt. Vernon. Burial will be in the nearby cemetery.
The body will lie in state at Osborn Funeral Home in Dix until 5 pm Saturday, and after that
at the residence.
She is survived by her parents, two brothers, Russell of Opdyke and Byford of Michigan City, Ind. and
four sisters, Mrs. Alma ????? of McLeansboro, Mrs. Mamie Haley of Opdyke, Mrs. Nellie Purcell of
Mt. Vernon, and Mrs. Dorothy Becherer of Belleville. One brother died in the war and two sisters
are deceased.
