Alma L. Nelson

Alma L. Nelson, 86, of Woodlawn died 6 a.m. Oct. 18, 2004, 
at the home of her daughter in Du Bois. She was a homemaker. 

Mrs. Nelson was born March 4, 1918, in Mt. Vernon to George 
and Hattie Cecil (Jines) Troxtell. She married Vern Martin 
Nelson Oct. 17, 1936, in Mt. Vernon; he died March 6, 1991. 

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday at Hughey Funeral 
Home in Mt. Vernon. The Revs. Mike Gillock and Bob Meyer will 
officiate. Burial will follow at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens. 
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hughey Funeral 
Home in Mt. Vernon. 

Mrs. Nelson is survived by sons Gene Nelson of Mt. Vernon, Danny 
W. Nelson of Mt. Vernon and Gregg M. Nelson and wife Bev of Woodlawn; 
daughters Beverly Sue Damerow and husband Vernon of Mt. Vernon and 
Linda Sue Behrle and husband Chuck of Du Bois; grandchildren Mark, 
Dorene, Nacole, Craig Scott, Preston, Taylor, Kyle, Starlyn Dawn, 
Drew, Rick and Kenny; and great-grandchildren Eraka, Arron, Autumn, 
Brice and Javin. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, 
Richard Earl Ballard; and a sister, Dorene. Mrs. Nelson was a member 
of Park Avenue Baptist Church but attended other churches in the area 
with her children. 

For those who wish, memorials may be made to St. Mary's Good Samaritan 
Hospice and will be accepted at the funeral home or may be mailed to 
Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt. Vernon, IL 62864. Arrangements
