Tony Ivan Moss
 

Death Notice: 1960 Mt. Vernon, Illinois 

Tony Ivan Moss of Dodds township - who originated the famous 
"Monkey Grip" tire patch in the days of the Model T. Ford - died at 3:50 A.M. 
today at Jefferson Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient for the past 
three weeks. 

His tire patch, manufactured in Oklahoma City, was the 
best-selling patch in the United States during that period. 
For the past several years Mr. Moss had been employed at the Mt. 
Vernon State Game Farm as electrician. 
He entered the hospital three weeks ago after suffering an injury 
while at work. 
Mr. Moss was 79 years and 11 months of age. 

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:00 P.M. at Myers 
Chapel. The Rev. Marsh Harpole will officiate and burial will be in Oakwood 
cemetery. 
The body will lie in state at Myers Chapel, where friends may call 
after 4:00 P.M. today. 

Mr. Moss was born February 15, 1881 in Shiloh Township (Jefferson 
County) Illinois, the son of Walter Douglas (W.D.) and Mary Ellen (Coleman) 
Moss. 

Survivors include two brothers, Ed B. Moss of Mt. Vernon and Mark 
H. Moss of San Antonio, Texas, and a sister, Mrs. Mayme Moss Culli of Taft, 
Texas. 

His parents and two brothers, Walter Moss and Moody Moss, 
preceeded him in death.
