Services to Be Held at Pleasant Grove Church for Prominent Farmer
Who Died Yesterday
Funeral services for Robert Brock "Bob" Moss, prominent Pleasant
Grove farmer who died yesterday afternoon, will be held at two
o'clock Sunday afternoon at Pleasant Grove church.
The services will be conducted by Rev. J. L. Miller, pastor of the
Pleasant Grove church, and Rev. Harry C. Brown and burial will follow
in the adjoining cemetery.
The body, taken from Hawkins Funeral Home to the Moss home in
Pleasant Grove at four o'clock this afternoon, will remain at the
home until the funeral hour.
A prominent farmer in the Pleasant Grove neighborhood, Bob Moss
had been a leader in the Pleasant Grove church, where he was a
member for 45 years.
His age was 69 years, 11 months and eight days.
A member of a pioneer family, he was held in the highest respect
by all who knew him and had a large number of friends in Mt. Vernon.
He was the son of T. C. "Thad" Moss who preceded him in death. His
father was a veteran of the Civil War. He ran away when a boy and,
too young to enlist, entered the war as a bugle boy.
Bob Moss was a kind and loving husband and father and was a friend
to all who knew him.
He was born February 5th, 1868, in Shiloh township. On October 10,
1895, he was united in marriage with Mary Florence Pettit.
He is survived by his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Mabel C. Williams;
two sons, Oscar H. Moss and Frank R. Moss; seven sisters, Mrs.
Rado Wallis, Mrs. Mollie Swift, Mrs. Maude Smith, Mrs. Blanche Whitlock
and Mrs. Nettie Pace, all of Mt. Vernon, Mrs. Gale Anderson of Reading,
Pa., and Mrs. Bessie Meffert of Marion; one brother, Roy Moss of Chicago,
and three grandchildren.
