Mrs. Mitchell, 99, Local Resident Dies: 
Taylorville Dec. 28, 1978

Mrs. Maggie MITCHELL, 99, a resident of Johnson Nursing 
Home, West Sspresser Street, died at 9:20 Wednesday night in 
St. Vincent Memorial Hospital where she was hospitalized for 
14 days. She was born August 21, 1879, at Waltonville, a daughter 
of Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Newell. The last of her family, the only 
survivors are a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Lorraine Carmichael of 
Taylorville; 15 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. 
Funeral services will be held at 1 o’clock Saturday afternoon 
at Davis Memorial Home of Edinburg with Rev. Sam Barger of
Decatur, officiating and burial will follow in the Edinburg Cemetery. 
Friends may call from 5 until 9 o’clock Friday afternoon,
evening and night, in the funeral home. 

(Maggie was the wife of Hiram Carmichael. They were married in 1898
and divorced sometime between 1910 and 1914)
