Smith F. Minor
            
Rev. Smith F. Minor, aged 64 years, 2 months died at his home in Hopewell on Wednesday 
April 8, 1908, after an illness of several months, of consumption.  Rev. Minor lived in 
and around Mt. Vernon during the past 12 years.  His sons, O. C.  Minor and family being 
at Hopewell, and Rev. Edward M. Minor, of Norwalk , and a brother John Minor, of Greenville, 
were at his bedside at the time of his death.
            
Rev. Minor was one  of a large family of children, eight of whom lived to grow up and rear 
families of their own, only one of these eight preceded him to the Beyond.  Two sisters, 
Mrs. Ellen Maxey and Mrs. Martha Freeze, of Greenville, and four brothers, Milton C. of 
Meridain, Miss. Joseph H. and Robert, of New Mexico, and John of Greenville, survive him.
            
He leaves two sons, O. B. Minor and Rev. Edward M. Minor and Fred an adopted son, who mourn the 
loss of a kind and loving father.
            
Rev. Minor was a charter member of the Universalist Church of this city having transferred his 
membership from the Univeralist Church in Bingham, Ill. When the Mt. Vernon church was organized 
in 1898.
            
In  1906 he was ordained to the ministry of the church of his faith and preached for the 
congregation of the Universalist Church at Mt. Pleasant, Ill., until forced to discontinue 
preaching entirely because of his fast failing health.
            
He was always an active member in the work of the Mt. Vernon church, having held the office 
of Sunday School superintendent, deacon and moderator, each in turn for a number of years.  
He was a friend to all who knew him and will be greatly missed by the church fellowship of 
this city.
            
The funeral will be held at the Hopewell Church on Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock. Rev. J. B. Fosher 
will conduct the services, after which interment will take place at Hopewell Cemetery, beside the 
graves of his wife and daughter, who have gone before to serve and praise the Father in Heaven in 
the clear and beautiful light of Eternal Day.

Died Apr. 4, 1908, 2 pm in Mt. Vernon Twp. Of pulmonary tuberculosis.  
Buried Hopewell Apr. 10.
