Margaret Minor

Margaret Minor, 84, of Mt. Vernon and a former resident of Waltonville, 
died at 3:15 p.m. Thursday, April 30, 2009, at Nature Trail Health Care 
Center in Mt. Vernon. She was born on Dec. 4, 1924, in Mt. Vernon, the 
daughter of Henry and Blanche (Hamilton) Shurtz. She married Claude Minor 
on May 10, 1946; he preceded her in death on Dec. 16, 1969. Margaret was 
a member of the Waltonville United Methodist Church and the Mt. Vernon 
Moose Lodge. She retired from Western Auto in Benton after 29 years.

She is survived by a son, David Mike Minor and wife Denise of Dix; a daughter, 
Claudia Dorothy and husband Morton Dorothy III of Urbana; a sister, Ethel Stewart 
of Noble; eight grandchildren, Brett Minor of Mt. Vernon, Kyle Minor and wife 
Mychelle of Dix, Trevor Minor of Waltonville, Kellen Minor and wife Krystle of 
Atlanta, Kasey Minor of Carbondale, Zachary Kauffman of Urbana, Olivia Dorothy 
of Springfield and Fredric Dorothy of Birmingham, Ala.; and four great-grandchildren, 
Christian, Kirsten, Gage and Isaac Minor.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, one son, Kevin Minor; one sister, 
Roberta Nichols; three brothers, Wilbur Bud Shurtz, Roy Shurtz and Burrell Shurtz.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Newell Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon 
with Mr. Randy Steele officiating. Interment will follow in Union Chapel Cemetery. 
Friends may call today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Newell Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.For
