Clyde Lee Miller
CLYDE LEE MILLER of Mount Vernon, Illinois, died at 5:30 P.M. Saturday, March 31, 2007
at Mount Vernon Countryside Manor in Mount Vernon, Illinois. He was 84. Clyde was born
May 15, 1922, in Hamilton County, Illinois, the son of Clinton A. and Myrtle (Phipps) Miller.
On July 19, 1941, he married Lois Maxine Harlow, who survives.
He was a veteran of World War II, having enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in January, 1944,
and serving until November, 1945. Mr. Miller spent most of his professional career as a commercial
artist and graphic designer. One of his designs is the official Seal of the City of Mt. Vernon
which has been in use since 1968. His career also included several years in the home decorating,
home improvement and building materials fields, including managing Sherwin-Williams Paint Company
in Mount Vernon, Illinois. He had served his community in civic and veterans’ affairs as a member
of Mt. Vernon Jaycees, Chamber of Commerce, Mt. Vernon Lions Club, Summersville School Board of
Education, AMVETS and American Legion. He was a member of Central Christian Church in Mt. Vernon
where he had served as a deacon and trustee. He was instrumental in the design, planning and
building of a major addition to the church, having served as chairman of the Planning and Building
Committees.
Along with his wife, Lois, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Ron Kelley
of Vienna, Virginia; a son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Penny Miller of Lake City, Florida;
five grandchildren, Jonathan Kelley and wife, Cyndi, of Sterling, Virginia; Kimberly Cook and
husband, Richard, of Decatur, Georgia; Brian Kelley and wife, Erin, of Portland, Oregon; Erin
Miller of Melbourne, Florida; and Amy Miller of Wilmington, North Carolina; seven great-grandchildren,
Noah Cook, Allison Kelley, James Kelley, Justin Kelley, Lila Cook, Ava Kelley, and Emma Kelley.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Adron M. Miller.
VISITATION was from 9 to 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, April 3, 2007 at Hughey Funeral Home in
Mount Vernon, Illinois
FUNERAL SERVICE was held 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, April 3, 2007 also at Hughey Funeral Home
and Mr. Randy Sells, Mr. J. Howard Kraps & Chaplain Dan Lovin officiated.
INTERMENT followed in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn, Illinois For those who
wish, memorials may be given to the Central Christian Church and will be accepted at the
funeral home or may be mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mount Vernon, Illinois 62864.
