Lester William Merriman

*CREVE COEUR *- Lester William Merriman, age 78, of Creve Coeur, Ill.,
died at 3:20 p.m. Monday, May 4, 2009, at his home.
Lester was born April 20, 1931, in Jefferson County, Ill., the son of
Matthew and Ivy (Wells) Merriman. He married Audrey E. (Roberts) in
Mount Vernon, Ill., on Dec. 24, 1951, and she survives.
He worked for 30 years at Caterpillar Tractor Co. in East Peoria, Ill.,
and retired in 1982.
He served two years in the Korean War, from 1952 to 1954.
His hobbies were fishing and camping, and he had camped in each of the
lower 48 states.
Lester is survived by his wife, Audrey of Creve Coeur, Ill.; two
sisters, Mary F. Shelton of Michigan and Maxine Wilkie of Decatur, Ill.;
one brother, Wayne Merriman of Lebanon, Mo.; and a host of nieces and
nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and seven sisters.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 7, 2009, at Knob
Prairie Cemetery in Waltonville, with Doctor Ron Reynolds officiating.
Friends are requested to go directly to the cemetery.
