GEORGE MERKEL DIES; RITES TO BE FRIDAY


George D. MERKEL, 23, of  Sesser died at noon Wednesday in Good Samaritan 
Hospital, Mt. Vernon. He had  been ill several months. He was born July 31, 1940, 
in Sesser, the son of Noble  and May BRADEN MERKEL. He was file clerk in the 
state license bureau,  Springfield, before he became ill. He leaves his wife, 
the former Joyce RHINE;  children, George Jr., 4, Robert Alan, 3, and Paula 
Ann, four months; sisters,  Mrs. Neva SULSER of Sesser, Mrs. Nina CHRISTMAN of 
Millstadt and Wanda MERKEL of  Sesser; and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Harrison 
BRADEN and Mrs. Carrie MERKEL,  all of Sesser. Funeral services will be at 
2p.m. Friday at Horse Prairie Baptist  Church northeast of Sesser, Rev. Hugh 
MOORE and Rev. Wayne THOMAS will  officiate. Burial will be in Maple Hill 
Cemetery, Sesser. Friends may call at  Brayfield Funeral Home, Sesser.
