George K. Medders
OBITUARY: The Mt. Vernon Register on Monday, March 8, 1999 published as
follows:
George K. Medders, 90, of Mt. Vernon, died at 7:05 a.m. Sunday,
March 7, 1999, at St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.
He was born on October 13, 1908, in Jefferson County, son of August
and Maggie (Pasley) Medders. He married Katherine I. Cowger on
May 29, 1935, in Jefferson County and she survives in Mt. Vernon.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Larry Medders of
Mt. Vernon; a daughter, Sharon Flota of Mt. Vernon; five grandchildren;
and 10 great-grandchildren. Mr. Medders was employed for several years
as a welder at the Mt. Vernon Car Manufacturing Company and later at
the Mt. Vernon Truck Body Company until retirement. He was a long-time
member of Lebanon Missionary Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and
trustee. He was one of the oldest members of the Lynchburg Road area
and was well-known by the young as well as the older members of the
community. He was the patriarch of the Medders and Flota families.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Lebanon Missionary Baptist Church
with the Revs. Richard West and Les Sinks officiating. Interment will
be in Medders Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and
from 9 a.m. until time of services Wednesday at the church. Memorials
may be made to Lebanon Missionary Baptist Church and will be accepted at
Hughey Funeral Home of Mt. Vernon, which is in charge of arrangements,
or at the church.
