Demos Irl McNutt
            
Demos Irl, son of Wm. And Jennie McNutt, was born June 27, 1893, and died Jan. 28, 1917 
age 23 years, six months and one day.
            
This young man professed religion at a revival at Hopewell during the winter of 1913.  
Though afflicted for some time with heart trouble he had lived  a consistent Christian and 
often through his sickness he expressed himself as being ready.
            
In looking through his testament we find several places marked, among them this one in particular:  
“And be ye kind one to another, tender hearted, forgiving one another even as God for Christ’s sake 
hath forgiven you.”
            
Besides his father and mother, he leaves three brothers; Charles of Weldon, Ill.; John of 
Mt. Vernon, Ill.; Rufus of Chicago. Ill., and three sisters, Nell, wife of Orley Stonecypher, 
Inez, wife of June Reynar, and Etta, wife of Allen Maxey, all of Mt. Vernon, Ill.
            
Demos’s place is vacant.  We ill miss him so much.  We mourn our loss, but some bright day we 
will understand why at the early dawning of the morning the Death Angel came for our boy.
            
The cold wintry winds may blow a sad requiem over the snow-covered mound where sleeps his silent 
dust, but can not disturb his sweet repose for his spirit enjoys the rest of saints where there 
are pleasures untold.
            
The world says “He is dead,” but the Savior gently whispers, “He is asleep.”  He has done what 
he could, peace to his memory.  The funeral was preached by Rev. M. S. Bumpus (his pastor) at 
the Hopewell Church, where the remains were laid to rest.

Several from Pleasant Grove attended the funeral of Demos McNutt at Hopewell Monday.
