Albert Newton McNew
Albert Newton McNEW, a resident of Mt. Vernon for 40 years, died Thursday
evening at his home, 316 South 12th Street. He was 72 years old. Mr. McNEW
was born in Tennessee on October 19, 1858, but had become well known during
a long period of residence here. For many years he worked as a painter and
paper hanger, retiring about two years ago. His wife, the former Malissa WOOD,
died on April 20, 1934. Surviving are one brother, Otto McNEW, of Mt. Vernon,
and two sisters, Mrs. Eva MOORE of Bluford and Mrs. Lillie PASLEY of Mt. Vernon.
Funeral services will be held at two o'clock Saturday afternoon at the Church
of God on South 15th Street, of which he was a member. Interment will be made
at the Arnold Cemetery. The body has been brought to Myers Funeral Chapel,
122 North 10th Street, and may be viewed at any time prior to the funeral.
Mr. McNEW was a very devout man and practiced the religion he professed and
was a model citizen, and his influence was ever on the side of right. He was
highly respected by all who knew him.
